Health check on the farm compressor

It’s been flagged up that we need an annual test for our bog standard air puffer that blows out filters and inflate tyres.

what sort of cost and who does this?

cant imagine it’s a big job, assume it’s mostly about the paper work

Someone like this

Probably cheaper to get a new one with a long warranty or which falls outside the legislation (If there is any)

It'll be the Tank which needs inspecting and certifying, so if you have a direct pump there might not be a problem.

Check the size before you agree/ order a check. The law requires it for those over a certain size only, which is the volume multiplied by the maximum pressure. From memory, it's 250 bar-litres, so a 25 litre tank to 10 bar, or 50 litre to 5 bar etc.

You could ask your local tyre fitters who they use, or a local garage.

A few small ones linked together will get round it and still have the required Puff :ROFLMAO:

If inspector discovers rust anywhere on the tank....that’s it.
May be wrong but I suspect inspector will demand immediate destruction of the tank.

Why not read the link I put up and decide for yourself.
I have and most air systems run at 10bar for brakes etc, I assume the combine compressor would be the same, so I would need to check the tank is 25ltrs or smaller which I doubt it actually is on the combine, tractor yes, small tank.
I will try and find out what pressure the combine tank runs at and also it's capacity. Interesting one!

Somebody may tell me I am wrong, but I think you can use rather large pipework to act as a reserve, which does not need inspecting.

Nope. Associated pipe work should be part of the volume.

There may be an exemption for vehicle systems. I’d probably go back to the source legislation (PSSR regs).

Sounds like the similar nonsense I heard recently about perfectly serviceable scaffolding being condemned the slightest trace of corrosion or chipping.
When we will stop squandering the earth`s finite resources just for some jobsworth`s clipboard.
I dare bet the tank on a 40 year compressor will be made of much better material than a cheapo one you buy today.

What is the "relevant fluid" in an air compressor/air tank? Without a fluid present the decision tree point to PSSR does not apply :scratchhead:
