I'm not sure how this happened or what I can do to fix it. I'm hoping that someone out there might have some experience or advice to offer.

could you "flush out" the borehole by recirculating hypochlorite? Could be, something has got into the bore hole? Or slurry spread too near?

there are lots of firms who sell them, we had a problem with it leaking, and they refused to repair it as I hadn't used the supplier to fit it. I informed them of the sale of goods act, and they said, our mistake, and sent us the parts!

Really depends on your area. Our borehole was installed by the previous owners of the house and I just stuck with the company that had installed it for them. Just serviced this week, UV light replaced and filter change, but that is it for this year. GRC Aquatech out of Insch.

We had this a few years ago in our spring-water supply. The raw water can be quite turbid with ochre so it goes through filters plus ion-exchange resin beads (uses brine tub to re-charge), which softens the water before it goes through the UV filter. Got all the gubbins fitted in the bottom of my ‘water tower’ shed so we don’t need it fitted in the houses.

how badly contaminated is it? A little bit of coliforms doesn't do any harm!

Depends whether it’s only you drinking it or if there are other houses it supplies. Councils are responsible for water testing and to pass the water tests it must have zero bacterial contamination.

Yes- that sort of thing. Whether you need more stuff (filters, softeners etc) depends on how your water samples.

I did have the council test here in the past, however, when I put a borehole in, I contacted them and they no longer do it, I used a local firm to do it. When we were on a spring, I felt a tiny bit of ecoli was probably good for the immune system, but you are right, we put a UV light system in the rented property.
