Get a set with larger diameter rings. We had a set with smaller rings and were too light. Paint was poor on ours, we didn't buy another set. Went back to vaderstads.

Paint is poor as said above, we had issues with pivot pins breaking on them despite them being new and well greased.

Bearings don't last long but that's just modern bearing manufacturing quality for you. Worth dropping the gangs out pre season and checking the play as the intermediate ones in the middle supports are a pain to change in a hurry. Otherwise, they are good rolls.

They are goods rolls but if the roller has 24” rings with 5 spokes check for cracking of the spoke near the hub. We’ve seen lots of these rings that have failed that way and replacements aren’t cheap like on other UK made machines.

We are very happy with ours on the new style 22” rings.

Do they have a good opening/closing mechanism?

Why does no other manufacturer other than vaderstad have rubber mounts on there bearings,? Vaderstad bearings in my experience outlast the rings whereas other makes seem to break bearings for fun? Pity vaderstad rings are just on the light side , but trouble free
I'll 2nd that here & currently would like a set of 8.2's Vaddys that is but yeesssh you have to sit down when you price them up
Put it this way there nearly double the price of the 6.2's even with same size of roller & thats not the taller ones as on most of them wider Vaddys
The standard height ones are fine & do a good enough job on this land.

There isnt another maker of rollers on the market with any type of Rubber around the bearing system is there? ive not seen any
It certainly makes a real difference, 1995 Rollex 620 from new here & all original bearings & pretty much rolled everything year after year.

Same here our old 6.2m set went to another forum member some years ago everything original and every ring still tight on shafts due to the belville washer set up compressing rings. Rings were worn but had done a lot and still going no doubt. 12 metre set here now and all tight but could do with being a little bit heavier

This Vaderstad roll thing must be a northern thing never see them down south, too light? And conversely good with stones so popular in the north?

And here is me happy with the weight there carrying the 6.2m set are only 2.5t yet on all land types here do more than enuff i have no need to make them any heavier
for two reasons if you firm ground down too much & like happened mid Oct last year you get several inches of rain the day after you rolled your asking for real trouble.
The Land just CAPs & you wished you hadnt been anywhere near it with rollers ive learnt that one the hard way.
I dont even need Leveling boards, thats another half a ton id never use. not too mention £5k to buy them.
The Finish the Vaddy Rollers leave in my own experience was far superior to a generic set of Flexicoil ones we tried back in 1995 & they weighed in a ton heavier.
Then these ones have certainly rolled plenty stones in & all original breaker & cambridge rings still in use.
Its such a shame there now FENDT equ money to replace.

Diameter does not equal ground pressure. A bigger diameter means a longer footprint which is useful on lighter seedbeds and the weight is spread further. Smaller diameter means a steeper angle of attack and a shorter footprint which could take more drawbar power. Same principle as wheel diameter on rowcrops.

When I went to see them, they are a 20 inch ring. The soil on part of our farm is quite stoney, stones about the size of your fist or slightly bigger. They were also cast iron rings. Would it do a job for me?

Yes. We’re on very flinty soil. I only sold ours to upgrade to a wider set after 12 years of use doing 3000 acres/year with an 8.2m and the rings would have been good for another 5 years.

We got a 8.2m set with 24" rings I've only rolled 40 acre with them it was pretty stoney stuff but not our worst fields by any means but I was impressed with the way they put stones in

Sounds as if they would roll 200 acres! They are a tidy set of rolls, a couple of cracked rings, but tight everywhere else
