Hire Bulls: what it should cost.

Hoping someone can help on this one. Not having hired in a bull before what should it cost? Need two for around six weeks to assist our bull seeing to 130 sucklers.

Normally charge £40 a week for an Angus and we say normally to keep for 9 weeks to allow cows 3 cycles. Send Tb tested and if he doesn’t Come back with in the 60 days, hirer to Tb test before return.

dairy herd close to us, imported a nasty sexually transmitted disease through his herd, took several yrs of AI only, before he could use a bull again. If one of ours, has a 'holiday', gets a big dose of a/b, before he gets anywhere near our cows, his, passed through the cows, to their calves, that a/b, is a very cheap insurance.

know where our bull went, so not so worried, but a bottle of la a/b is cheap insurance, for anything else. Took the dairy involved, years to sort it, it was AI only, till hfrs clear, then a clean bull for them, but yrs for the rest.

A previous manager here hired a bull to replace a lame one with a batch of heifers. Owner decided to keep them isolated from then on and all were sold in calf.

Good bull and no reason not to trust the owner of the bull but a big risk to take.
