Home Kill

I've half read enough threads on here to kinda know the answer but - I've just done the school run and 1 of the teachers who is married to a Tunisian wanted to know where she could get a couple of lambs for home slaughter for Eid. I assume she can't?

Perfectly possible. The buyer needs a holding number. The move needs to be documented as normal with tags in ears and the animals moved correctly in a livestock trailer. I am pretty sure you can get a holding number using just a garden, certainly you could a few years ago in England. Make sure all your paperwork is right because this might get looked at!

Not strictly anything to do with you but the Tunisian gentleman needs to take into account that the animals must be slaughtered humanly. This is a legal issue so he needs to be sure. Once dead he can only feed the meat to his household as explained earlier. Anything left, and there will be something unless he is going to eat the fleece!, must be disposed of via local knacker. His paperwork must make clear move on, slaughter details, disposal details and he could be inspected by trading standards.

Whether all this is worth it, you decide!

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
