I am thinking about getting a horner rambo mains and was wondering what they are like and are there any other brands to look at at the same price.

Tried one didn’t like it at all and sent it back to horners ( swapped it for a standard set of clippers) but tried the NZ handypiece and loved it, had it for many years now faultlessly. It’s a far higher quality and not chinese but naturally at a higher price

Tails 380 ewes the other day on one battery and still plenty life in it. The handypiece really is a remarkable clipper

Dad bought a battery rambo this year although we were going to go for a cheaper one just for fly strike. It’s best thing he’s bought apparently and he’s done all sheep, ewe lambs and rest of male lambs tails with it this back end in groups of twenty or thirty

For clarification.

theres 3 different versions of the Rambo .
all 3 kits share the same (24v motor in) handpiece with the same yellow long flex.

In the case of the mains version as mentioned by the op Its still 24v DC at the handpiece.and the yellow flex that goes directly to the handpiece which makes it much safer than those other makes of mains motor in handpiece types ,which have 240v AC right to and in the handpiece itself.

the three different types,(mains ,pouch battery ,12v car battery . ...can be mixed and matched ,

1. the mains version asabove has its own 24vDc from 240ac transformer to yellow flex > handpiece

2. or like by adding a 12v car battery to 24v ''step up' box to the handpiece via the yellow flex

3. or by the addition of a rechargeable 24v battery which is carried in a pouch again to the hand piece via the same yellow flex IYSWIM

clever system really , weve only got the mains version and it will run 92mm combs happily i find.

Gone through several different makes now and have found the Rambo the best one so far, got a mains one with a small generator. Brilliant for spare parts too

Brought a Rambo 12 v battery version about 6 year ago, had a bit of bother with the motor getting that hot it melted solder on wires inside. Also seems to run a lot quicker than standard machine which = heat = cutters get blunt quicker. Might just be operator error.

Horner are brilliant to deal with, send them combs/cutters for sharpening.

How does the Horner Rambo compare with the Zipper? Is it just the flexibility of the portable options that makes it over twice the price or is there more to it than that?
I mainly would want to clip dirty cattle in a crush near to a mains socket. Although saying that if I bought the rambo, I would take up the additional 12v option.
