80% taxable profits......without any of the work and able to spend their time as they wished? I think many would take it and enjoy it.

Trouble is unless the government fed the cows, and tended to the crops etc. as required, that 80% wouldn't even go halfway to counteract the losses that would be incurred over the next however many years.
Well the first bit, they cannot really go out, lot just stuck at home and a lot will be getting on each others nervous by now,

Second bit, some will not have any jobs to go back to, so that might be for however many years

I will say not all that glitters, is not gold

The big unknown is what the economy will start to function like when the recovery begins.
With companies allowed to delay publishing their financial reports, and insolvency laws relaxed, we have very little idea about how businesses are coping. If we could see their accounts it might be quite worrying!

Tell you what it is 80% may seem a lot, but how would the forum members feel if they were stop stopped working and stopped farming for the lock down and we're paid 80% of their taxable profits for the rest of lock down,
Bet some would have a different view on it then,
Foot and mouth, a lot of farms were shut down for months some had their life's work destroyed some had no income for months all through government negligence, don't try and tell us we know nothing about it cos we fecking do

Aye and farmers got paid at stock valuation from local auction company, and got paid to clean the farms up, some did very well out of it, the unlucky ones lost the bloodlines of there stock,
So don't try and say they were hard done by, the ones that did not get F&M were the ones that suffered most, and don't talk down to me, I have been there done that,
And see your back to the same old tune, blaming the government, change the record will you

I will change no fecking record I got no compensation whatsoever yet my business was affected for months through the government incompetence
BSE was another case of the government fecking up farmers businesses for years so again don't try and tell us we know nothing about it cos we fecking well do

Lifes work destroyed. If your on about livestock then they were laughing all the way to the bank and well paid for clean up!

Welsh mountain sheep that were bought for £2 valued at £120 each!

should never of been as much as 80% ,, he should of payed bills off ie council tax this would of put the money to them as they need all to provide services payed bills like water etc for a year and gave a small amount direct ,, most people treating this as a payed holiday , with just the basic to live on they might be a bit keener to do as there told and helf get back to normal ,, this is just going to drag on and on now until we cant get back

It was still destroyed and some of it couldn't be bought back
I am not saying that some didn't come out of it very well but a lot lost money and some lost more than that

Someone local was on TV crying when the cows were culled....they had a farm sale booked with auctioneers and made over the odds value wise and no costs.
Then got paid for 3 months to clean their farm.
Win win, Crocodile tears!
