Had my 100hp, five ton jd on a big trailer silage carting and it wouldn’t pull an empty trailer up a steep bit of field. It’s not just about hp it’s about weigh.

Anything over 120hp would surely be enough?? 200hp for a 12 tonne trailer sounds like a waste of money to me, fuel isnt cheap (although it is heading that way at the minute!). We pull 14 tonne trailers with our massey 6480 and she pulls like a train. Before her we would be using our new Holland 7840 from 1997 although we would more often that not have only had a 12 tonne trailer on her, but I know for a fact we used to do maize with her and a 12 tonne trailer.

What would be the hp required for a 12 ton broughan silage trailer on hilly ground.
Thanks
What size tractors have you got available?
In the past I’ve pulled a 12 ton trailer with my MF6270 on sidelamd ive felt less than comfortable on. It’s do able in decent conditions but isn’t really boss of the job in less than ideal conditions and hasn’t got enough power to keep up with the chopper at times so the attitude of chopper driver comes into it too.
