Been discussing it here, now that there's a local-ish supplier. I wanted to use it as a swap for heating oil, but it isn't a straight swap for the present stove's requirement.
It would be good to have an alternative to red diesel for the tractors, but the price is high ~ for now, at least. It's marketed as a straight drop in replacement for diesel in most (but not all) vehicles.

HVO is basically a drop in diesel replacement made by hydrogenating vegetable oils. This is not the same as the old biodiesel- there is no oxygen in it and so it is much more stable. Since it is not based on fossil fuel there is a significant carbon emission saving to be had. There is also no sulphur etc in it so it is superior to diesel. It is designed as a green alternative to fossil diesel. It won't be cheap as it is a road fuel and so attracts the usual tax.

GTL is diesel made from natural gas- still from fossil fuel by made synthetically from the ground up. Still a fossil fuel but 100% pure as the hydrocarbon molecules are all made from methane. GTL is slightly more expensive than regular diesel but totally pure and so you get no issues with fuel filters, lower emissions and you should in theory get more hours out of a tankful.

Not aware of one. The trouble is its billed as a more environmentally friendly diesel and you'd think they would want you using it but I'd bet it costs a fortune to produce compared to fossil fuel diesel and so they probably get less tax off it than white.
There's a good case for free from taxes version with a colour added when it's to be used instead of kerosene for cooking and heating, imv. Let's have an affordable (ie, as cheap as fossil methane gas is ~ or cheaper) option for those of us who are away from the magical gas grid.

The thing I don't think the greener fuels can be produced as cheaply as fossil fuels even accounting for taxation.

Making a HVO version of kerosene will just mean making a blend of hydrocarbon molecules of the required length- this is basically the only difference between kerosene and diesel as it stands. I would buy HVO kerosene if it was reasonably priced and my house would magically drop it's 'emissions' by more than 90%.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
