I thought you might say that. I've only ever seen this with nugents. Doesn't seem to affect the Fleming
We’ve got a Fleming, don’t seem to have this problem. We keep it stacked on a pallet so don’t need to wind the top link in so tight to get started.

We got our first hydraulic top link in 1999, it came with MF 390 and from that day on we've bought all our tractors with hydraulic top link. One of those things you don't know you need but can't live without once you have it.
How did you manage with no external control? Could you manually work a spool from the ground?

How do people calculate ton requirements for hydraulic links? Looking for a puma 210, combi drill, vario (like a trio) so a bit of weight. Like the idea of closed ends but need to swap from cat 2 to 3 so think thats not an option! @Dave Any ideas? Thanks

Can easily go up to 18T rated lift, with a hook end, so that would make it easy to swap between CAT2 and CAT3, I understand what you say about a fixed ball, feeling more secure, but in reality I think you should be OK, if sticking with decent quality
If you did go with a fixed ball you could use a bush, but they get damaged and bad to get out.

What length do you need?

Have a hook on my hydraulic top kink and no issues
Ye pretty much stuck with hook end I think with different size balls needed. Length and pin sizes i can copy off current link but not a clue about tonnage or rod diameter. Want it man enough without being daft heavy/expensive. Guessing would also need to fabricate something maybe to lock it up if its not genuine cnh 🤔

Will have to have a measure and let you know if you want to quote. Thanks

Didn’t we all stand on the lift arms and lean in down through the back window to the levers in those days? :nailbiting:
Our 390 and 399 had a lovely external lever that would move the hydraulic arms up and down……..

till the dealer turned up one day and removed them on safety grounds 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

The levers were very interesting. Not very accurate and moved the arms at same speed as the ones inside cab. Caution and calmness was needed whilst operating the lever. 😅
