In situ hydraulic hose crimping... any experience of hand held kit?

No idea how it has happened but one of the connections to the pickup hitch on the massey have snapped off. Unfortunately it is the one on the pipe that goes to the rams inside the hitch itself. Looks a pig of a job and a few days work to drop the hitch to get to the other end to remove the pipe so in no mood to do that with grass cut in the meadow! I can get about 6 inches of pipe out in the open. It is small bore stuff (about 16mm diameter) so not a particularly big fitting. Local fitter needs pipe off, local contractor has a mobile crimper but says he needs about 18 inches free pipe to work with! I would imagine someone like Parkers would have the kit to do it at a price. Looking online as is the way these days I see you can buy something like this...

which would no doubt cost less than calling Parkers out to Mid Wales and would be available for other simialr jobs. Has anyone used something similar. Would it be a waste of time and money? Any other options I may have missed? All help gratefully received.

Reusable fittings will get you out of a hole, used them many times. See link for examples, but any bearing factor / hydraulic shop should be able to get what you need overnight.

Aha, I didn't realise that such things existed for hydraulics. I will call my local supplier and see if they have such things in stock. Thanks

Not many hydraulic hose vans / shops will supply them, they much prefer to sell a new hoses with crimped fittings.

I have used them to get out of a sticky hole as you have, but then replace the pipe when the opportunity arises. Generally if a pipe bursts its due for complete replacement, but this not always practical.

I keep a few odd ones that I have collected over the years spare in the workshop, but don't think I have anything as small as you describe.

Kit here for future, could easily pay for itself with on out of hours breakdown

Think you'll find that that crimper is just for air conditioning hoses.. their just thin tin fittings and not a lot of pressure..

I was told that they are illegal..... Not sure I believe that tbh. ;)

I know many will not put a fresh end on a pipe which makes sense on high pressure kit I guess.

Have seen a hand-held crimper work, used the normal gates type dies and a separate hand operated pump like in your pictures but for hydraulic hose. Or you can get a vertical crimper with attached hand pump designed to fix too the bench but can be mobile if required, bit bigger though.

Same here. Just Dealer BS I suspect ;)

The only issue I have found, is they can be a little more bulky and this can be an issue sometimes.
Local John Deere dealer will sell them to you but says they're not allowed to fit them. I've got a couple of 3/8 and 1/2 inch straight fittings as a standby for Christmas and bank holidays. Plan is always to replace with a new house but it's not happened yet.

What massey is it? Most hitch pipes on them come off easily.

Well I picked up a reusable fitting and an adapter yesterday and fitted it today. Was actually much easier than expected and all went together nicely. And glad to say it works fine. Big releif I can tell you. Still no idea how that Dromone hitch would have come off if it hadn't been possible.
