I am a self-employed veterinary surgeon looking for private farm animal work for 2022. I am hoping to work on individual farms over a set time period helping at lambing/calving time. I want to provide veterinary services as well as help with everyday work. What I am offering would be best suited for farms which have short busy periods of calving/lambing which often require veterinary input e.g. lambing embryo recipients, block calving. I will provide all of my own kit and can source veterinary medicines if needed.
What am I offering?
-standby veterinary care 24/7 over a set time period
-assistance with difficult lambings/calvings
-caesarean operations for both cattle and sheep
-correction of vaginal/uterine prolapses
-other minor procedures such as castrating, correcting entropion, casting broken legs etc
-post mortems
-monitoring colostrum quality
-worm egg counts
-veterinary advice
-examination and treatment of sick animals
-as well as veterinary work I can also get stuck in with everyday tasks such as feeding, bedding, cleaning, moving stock, administering medicines etc.
-I can also AI and foot trim if required
What experience do I have?
-3 years working in busy farm animal practices
-extensive experience with cattle/sheep caesareans
-before and during university I completed many placements for lambing and dairy
-I have grown up on a dairy farm so I have a good overall knowledge of livestock management
I am happy to work across the UK. Accommodation would be beneficial to ensure I respond quickly to emergencies. I can provide references from both vets and farmers. Rates can be negotiated based on workload and individual needs. I am a registered member of the RCVS and have my own personal insurances.
