JCB Telehandler Idle Revving Issue

Our JCB is having a serious issue noticeable when idle with it revving up and down constantly. We suspected a diesel issue so we changed the filters but made no difference. Appears to be getting worse so wondering if anyone can offer any help?

It’s the most important machine on the farm so would be a nightmare if it lay down one morning.

Definitely get a code up then though I would have thought.

Symptoms do sound very much like the lift pump on the diesel filter head. Ours has done this but then wouldn't throttle up very well at all. Also gave an error code.

Has anyone found the cause of this problem? Our jcb has been doing this for a while now and it seems to be doing it more frequently since the last filter change which makes me think it could related to the filters

I sourced our problem but haven’t had the time yet to fix it but it’s the lift pump. We have a new one here which cost peanuts. The diaphragm inside the pump has worn I was told. We are going to take the whole bonnet and unit off so we can hot wash the whole engine down before changing the pump. The pump isn’t the easiest to access hence why the bonnet and unit is coming off.

Also ours has been getting worse over the past few months now, we can actually smell diesel so a leak which is letting air in I suspec.

Lift pump or high pressure pump?

Ok thanks ill have to look into it, can I ask how you determined it was the lift pump that was the problem?
JCB mechanic was at a local contractor so I drove it down to him. He told me to replace the lift pump so I got the part he showed me. Our JCB is a bog standard one, not an Agri/Super etc if that makes a difference.

Awkward but doable from the side without having to take bonnet off etc. Those lift pumps are actually common for the pipes coming loose and dropping out of the alloy casting

Thanks, ours is a 2018 320s so not sure if it’ll be the same but I’d say I’ll have to get a mechanic to look at it and I’ll pass on the info about the lift pump to him
