June Census

Aye - up,

we had an email a while ago about the census. I didn’t like the look of it so ignored it.

Now we’re getting emails saying it’s a legal requirement to send details.

I’ve never been asked to do one before.

Any ideas?

Cheers, Pete.

There was another thread on here Pete.
I had one to my ‘junk’. Looked dodgy. Deleted it.
I haven’t done one for a few years. Never hear anymore after the first reminder.

First time I tried the site was unavailable, the second time it crashed, probably when waiting for my calculation of 0.0001Ha down to gooseberry bushes (1). As I don't employ anyone or work for anyone, receive any payment for acreage or environmental schemes, or am thinking about applying for a grant for another gooseberry bush, I'm inclined to forget it. Must have had 3 reminders so far.

suspected the email so requested a paper copy that arrived today.....pretty much the same as it always was UNTIL the final bits which were a bit 'gestapoesque' IMO

edit 'orwelian' might be better term

That would be the questions re Farm Strategy and Farm risk assessments? You could fill in all the forms under the sun and still trip over a step on your way into the yards. Perhaps better to stay in bed.
All cover your arris stuff. But I agree - intrusive.

Had it in paper form a few weeks ago, put in the to do pile, does it legally have to be done? Chances of an inspection higher if not filled in etc?

June survey of agriculture and horticulture in England
In 2021 this survey will be a full agricultural census. All active commercial farms in England are asked to complete the census. The collection of the information is important and is mandatory under the Agricultural Statistics Act 1979. The 2021 census will capture detailed information on land use, crop areas, livestock numbers and farm labour. Similar information is collected by the appropriate authorities in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland allowing Defra to produce results for the UK.

More information about how the June agricultural survey data is collected and analysed is available below.
