Leave the tractor parked up and set up a service to help farmers prepare for, and evade, various inspections? There’s a company by Hereford that are making a living doing just that, and employing several people to do so now.

I’ve heard some of those inspectors can be right jobsworths, so lots will pay handsomely to have someone take over their ‘inspector handling’ duties I reckon.?

I've considered this in the past and still do think it's a possibility. As I've mentioned on this site before, I've done some contract work for the RPA in the past (sheep/cattle/NVZ/crops inspections). The thing that stood out was that the vast majority of farmers thought they were doing everything correctly and had nothing to fear from an inspection. It was only when they got inspected that they found out otherwise.

I agree with you that many farmers would benefit from an experienced person, who knows the regs and potential pitfalls, doing a pre inspection. But getting people to accept they need that person in the 1st place is where I think it could be difficult. Getting them to pay for it could be nigh on impossible!!

Yeah I know of them and have done jobs where they've been around. No problems were found on the farms they serviced so very worthwhile IMO.

I'll have to mull it over........

Lawnmowers only work on lawns. Tractors can do work that doesn't involve a field.

for what return? Pulling tankers and trailers doesn’t pay. Your just doing a job that someone else doesn’t want to wreck their tractor doing.

with dvsa cracking down on tractors and trailers, would stay well away from anything road orientated unless you want to run white diesel and wear tyres out quicker than the time you can earn to buy a new set.

fastracs are going up in money, leave it in the shed on low hours and sell it when the market is high

Grain cleaning/dressing?

Logical choice is something cheaper, say, a trailer - but there are threads on here full of "lads will work for £13/hr fuel supplied just to get the work" and so that's a road to nothingness

I'd say get well outside the box of "contractor" if you want serious returns on your engine hours - it may involve serious investment also.
