How can the Opposition make hard promises when they don't see the books until elected.
I think whichever party is in Opposition, the shadow chancellor and leader of that party are given a copy of the books at each budget.
Was the 'There is no money' note allegedly left at the Treasury to the new incoming Chancellor Darling (iirc) a true story?

Darling took over from Brown so was following a CoE from his own party.

I think it was actually left by one of Darling's minions to the incoming Con/Dem chancellor at the 2010(?) election after Labour were ousted largely thanks to Gordon Brown's "just some biggoted woman" hot mic episode.

All spending by HMG is open to examination by MPs on request &, more or less, by the public. (y)

All government policies are costed prior to announcement and MPs or peers, of any party, can request factual information on these costs via parliamentary questions. This means the opposition can in effect ask that civil servants produce costings for government policies, so successive governments have held the view that they should be able to ask for the same of opposition policies.

Yes not suggesting it isn't, but there is another thread where one poster is saying that certain caravan dwelling scum are angels, the figures in the article shows how much crime has increased in rural areas.
On this thread it would be nice if they achieved it but we all know nothing will happen
Hang on there sunshine, I live in a caravan well mobile home, are you suggesting I have risen to the top ?
