New trailed seed hopper gives increased sowing capacity

KUHN Farm Machinery has launched a new trailed seed drill tank to give arable growers the option of increased hopper capacity.

The new KUHN TT trailed seed drill is available in two sizes: the TT 3500 with a 3,500 litre capacity, and the TT 6500 with a 6,500 litre capacity. Both versions feature a stainless steel volumetric metering unit and are equipped with a standard Category-3 rear attachment for connecting to a KUHN seeding bar: the TT can be used with a folding BSDR coulter bar or with a KUHN precision seeding drill bar – both versions are available in 6 to 9 metre working widths.

The new TT is ISOBUS compatible, with or without KUHN’s CCI 200 terminal, and uses a highly accurate radar system to detect forward speed. The TT 3500 uses a single electrically driven metering unit while the TT 6500 is equipped with twin metering units: on both machines the metering units allow application rates to be accurately adjusted on the move.

The trailed hopper is fitted with large dimension floatation wheels as standard (600/55 - 26.5 wheels on the TT 3500, 710/50 - 30.5 wheels on the TT 6500) and is also available in a twin-wheel format. Hydraulic brakes are standard equipment.

The TT’s seed hopper has a large loading opening and low-loading height for quick and easy filling, and is fitted with a filtering sieve to protect the metering unit(s) from foreign objects. An access ladder and platform are fitted for operator convenience and safety, and a quick emptying hatch makes changing seed part-way through a load a quick and easy operation.

An optional VARIO seed blower makes the TT compatible with all tractors – even those with insufficient hydraulic capacity to drive the standard, pneumatically blown hopper.

NEW BALER-WRAPPER COMBO FROM KUHN

KUHN Farm Machinery has introduced a new version of its round baler-wrapper combination machine, the i-BIO+, with a new and patented twin film-on-film wrapping system which offers reduced wrapping costs and easier plastic recycling.

The i-BIO+ features a 230cm wide pick-up unit with five tine bars and cam-track technology for improved contour following for cleaner, more efficient grass collection.

Two intake rotors are available – the OptiCut 14 or OptiCut 23 – both of which offer knife group selection: the OptiCut 14 is fitted with 14 knives to provide a minimum cutting length of 70mm. Group selection enables the knives to be used in five formations (0, 4, 7, 7 or 14) to produce the desired chop length. The OptiCut 23 offers a minimum cutting length of 45mm, with its 23 knives used in a 0, 7, 11, 12 or 23 arrangement. Each knife is individually spring-protected against damage from foreign objects. Standard rotor disengagement and drop floor technology ensure fast and easy clearance when a blockage may occur.

Bales are formed by 18 PowerTrack rollers with integrated stainless steel low-friction plates resulting in a significant reduction in power requirement. All internal working mechanisms are powered by high quality long-life drive chains which are complemented by a Beka Max continuous chain oiling system for maximum strength and reliability. The six rollers in the bottom of the chamber act as wrapping table during the bale wrapping process.

The i-BIO+ can be used with conventional net binding and can also be fitted with KUHN’s patented film-on-film bale binding and wrapping system which not only reduces wrapping costs, but also offers ease of usage and recycling benefits by eliminating the need for a separate netting.

KUHN’s unique film binding system uses two film reels to bind the cylindrical side of the bale and offers several advantages compared to other film binding systems, not least the ability to use standard sized rolls (25 µm, 1500 m, 750 mm) therefore eliminating the need to order separate binding and wrapping film. The KUHN system also boasts quicker and easier roll loading thanks to a user-friendly system which hydraulically folds the film reels into their loading/unloading position.

Switching between film and net binding is quick and simple as the two systems are separate, making it easy to switch from one system to the other for different crops.

Bale wrapping is taken care of by KUHN’s IntelliWrap system which gives complete control of the wrapping process, allowing the operator to select the number of film layers and to adjust film overlap. The i-BIO+’s high-speed wrapping ring allows film to be applied at up to 50 revolutions per minute and produces well-shaped, tightly sealed bales for improved crop preservation.

The i-BIO+ is ISOBUS compatible – with all functions managed via a single, full-colour display terminal – and boasts an extremely compact and lightweight design (less than 3,700kg) which makes it very manoeuvrable and well-suited for use on hilly terrain and within small field systems.

KUHN’S WELSH GRASSLAND MACHINERY DEMOS TO INCLUDE MOWERS, BALER-WRAPPERS AND RAKE RANGES

KUHN Farm Machinery will demonstrate a wide selection of hay and silage making equipment at this year’s Royal Welsh Grassland event. Being held on the Rhug Estate, Corwen on 9th June 2016, KUHN will have the following machines, amongst others, on display:

FC 3125 DF-FF – FRONT MOUNTED MOWER CONDITIONER

upload_2016-5-4_15-45-47.png

KUHN’s new front-mounted disc mower conditioner – the FC 3125 DF-FF – has a 3.10m working width and features improved terrain-following capabilities and variable conditioning speeds, making it ideal for use as part of a high power, high output, triple-gang setup.

The FC 3125 DF-FF uses a re-designed twin-linkage headstock and shark fin inspired design which houses an innovative suspension set-up enabling the mower to oscillate at angles of up to 30 degrees. This improved ground contouring capability prevents crop contamination and preserves the quality of the remaining grass sward.

The mower’s suspension is controlled by KUHN’s LIFT-CONTROL hydro-pneumatic ground pressure system which minimises crop damage and reduces wear and tear of the cutter bar by allowing the mowing unit to travel by up to 0.75m. Two large pivoting connecting rods provide additional structural strength and stability.

The conditioning unit is fitted with KUHN’s pivoting steel fingers which adapt easily to different types of forage. Conditioning intensity is controlled by a single gear lever which selects one of two speeds: 1000 min-1 for most forage grasses or 755 min-1 for more delicate crops.

The FC 3125 DF-FF uses KUHN’s reliable OPTIDISC cutter bar and PROTECTADRIVE safety system and is fitted with FAST-FIT knives.

When used in combination with a rear mounted twin mower conditioner – either the FC 8830 D or FC 9530 D – a total working width of 8.73 to 9.53 metres is possible.

GA 6501 P – MOUNTED TWIN ROTOR GRASS RAKE

upload_2016-5-4_15-46-35.png

KUHN’s new fully-mounted twin rotor grass rake – the GA 6501 P – is a high output, central delivery Gyrorake with a variable working width of 5.55 to 6.40 metres. The width of the central windrow can be adjusted between 1.00 and 2.00 metres and is formed by two 2.65m diameter rotors, each of which are equipped with 10 tines arms and three tines per arm.

The new machine sits alongside KUHN’s existing range of semi-mounted Gyrorakes (available in working widths from 5.50 to 14.70 metres) but is the first KUHN twin-rotor rake to be made available in a fully mounted format.

The GA 6501 P uses KUHN’s double curved tine arms which have been designed to produce an airy, well-structured, regular and arrow-straight windrow, even when operating at high forward speeds. The raking height of the rotors can be adjusted by operating a single crank mechanism.

Each rotor is mounted on four pivoting, large diameter wheels for excellent ground contouring, with the new machine also using KUHN’s 3D rotor articulation system to provide additional stability and close ground following even on the roughest terrain.

The GA 6501 P has excellent manoeuverability in tight field corners, whilst the integrated rotor lift hydraulics allow high ground clearance at field headlands and enable the fully mounted machine to be folded into its 2.5m wide transport position without the need to leave the tractor cab.

The GA 6501 P operates at a PTO speed of 540 rpm and can be used on tractors with a minimum PTO power of 40hp. It requires one DA hydraulic valve to operate the lift cylinders and is fitted as standard with road lights and turning indicators.

FBP 3135 – FIXED CHAMBER ROUND BALER-WRAPPER COMBINATION

upload_2016-5-4_15-47-7.png

The latest version of Kuhn’s fixed chamber round baler-wrapper combination – the FBP 3135 BalePack machine – delivers high output productivity in conjunction with consistent bale formation and a reliable wrapping mechanism.

The FBP 3135 is available with two different intake rotors – the OptiCut 14 or OptiCut 23 – both with Hardox tines. Each version shares the same 2.30m pick-up which features cam-track technology to enable improved contour following for cleaner, more efficient grass collection.

The OptiCut 14 is fitted with 14 knives to provide a minimum cutting length of 70mm. A drop-floor intake system enables blockages to be cleared easily and quickly by hydraulically lowering the floor and knives from the comfort of the tractor cab. After the blockage is cleared they can easily be moved back into their working position.

The FBP’s baling chamber consists of 18 PowerTrack rollers which produce round bales 1.25m in diameter and 1.22m in width. The 18 rollers have symmetrical profiles which generate exceptionally high density and reliable bale rotation in all crop conditions. Net binding is available as standard, with twine binding available as an option.

The FBP uses KUHN’s IntelliWrap system which uses vertically mounted film pre-stretchers to prevent grass being deposited between layers of film for a tighter, better sealed and more consistent finish. The wrapping unit is also fitted as standard with KUHN’s film break sensor, and can be specified with the company’s 3D wrapping system for perfectly sealed bales which maintain their shape well and are better protected compared to conventionally wrapped bales.

Overall dimensions for the FBP 3135 are 6.25m (length), 2.70m (height) and 2.99m (width). The machine’s net weight is from 5,400kg depending on options selected.

NFYFC DREAM MACHINE DESIGNERS WIN TRIP TO KUHN HEADQUARTERS, FRANCE

KUHN Farm Machinery has announced the winners of its Dream Machine competition, with four Young Farmers from Essex, County Durham, Devon and North Yorkshire winning a trip to the company’s global headquarters and manufacturing plant in France.
kuhn.JPG

Ben Robinson (left), Caroline Baker and Benjamin Sell (right) received their Dream Machine prizes from Sian Pritchard, MD of KUHN UK, and Sam Dilcock, Chairman of the AGRI steering group, at the NFYFC’s Annual Convention in Blackpool.

Held in association with the National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs (NFYFC), the Dream Machine competition was designed to encourage young farmers to design an innovative and imaginative new piece of farm machinery that would benefit modern farming systems.

The four winners were announced on 7th May at the AGRI (Agriculture and Rural Issues) Forum as part of the NFYFC’s Annual Convention 2016 in Blackpool. They will be taken on an expenses-paid trip to KUHN’s French headquarters and manufacturing site at Saverne near Strasbourg during October, where the winners will have the opportunity to present their ‘Dream Machine’ concepts to the company’s head designers.

Ben Robinson of Great Smeaton YFC in North Yorkshire won the Junior (under 16) category with his design for a trailed disc and tine cultivator for use on stony land. Ben’s design emphasis was to reduce cultivation costs by negating the need to power harrow. His machine is designed with two rows of sub-soiling tines, the second of which targets soil compaction caused by tractor wheels. Ben’s design also incorporates a final set of hydraulically operated press wheels which can double-up as transportation wheels.

In the Intermediate (under 21) class, Benjamin Sell from Brentwood YFC in Essex designed a bale spike capable of safely and securely loading or unloading between one and four mini Hesston bales. Having struggled to unload several hundred bales during last year’s harvest with an inadequate bale spike, Ben designed the new machine to make the loading and unloading process more efficient. Ben’s machine features two lower rows of tine spikes, plus a third, hydraulically operated upper pair of tines which grab and secure a third row of bales.

Ben intends to build his first prototype – which features an anti-topple frame for when the grab isn’t in use – ahead of this year’s harvest and hopes that his design will go on to help other livestock farmers and bale contractors.

In the Senior (under 26) class, Caroline Baker of Stockton YFC in County Durham designed a bale wrapper with an automatic film loading system. As a newly trained tractor driver, the weight of replacement film tubes prevented Caroline from operating a conventional bale wrapper. Her design solves this problem by using a revolving film storage conveyor with spring- loaded film holders to make films easy to load. An automated tube replacement system negates the need to load the film tubes into the wrapper by hand, with empty cartridges being automatically discharged and replaced by a full tube from the storage conveyor.

In the Associate (27 years and over) category, Daniel Webber from Withleigh YFC in Devon designed a ‘Rapid Wrap’ baler and wrapper combination. Daniel’s machine combines a conventional large square baler with an adapted version of KUHN’s SW 4004 bale wrapper to produce one machine which bales and wraps in one. Daniel’s design is aimed at farmers and contractors looking to reduce the costs and time entailed in producing square bale haylage and silage, with an emphasis on maintaining bale quality and shape as part of a non-stop baling and wrapping process.

Sian Pritchard, Managing Director of KUHN Farm Machinery (UK), said: “We have been very impressed by the amount of thought and reasoning that went into the winning entries and look forward to welcoming all four winners to our factory in Saverne. All four of the winning Dream Machines show some excellent design features, and it is clear that the winners have a real understanding of the mechanical needs of modern farming systems.”

Sam Dilcock, Chairman of the AGRI steering group, expressed the NFYFC’s appreciation for KUHN’s sponsorship of the competition. “On behalf of the NFYFC and AGRI Forum, I’d like to thank KUHN for their kind sponsorship. The competition is a great example of the way the NFYFC works to provide young farmers with opportunities to learn more about the agricultural industry and for members to share their ideas for the future with industry leaders who can bring their ideas to life. The trip to Saverne is a fantastic opportunity for the four winners to learn more about the design and manufacturing processes involved in getting a piece of farm machinery from a design concept to a working piece of equipment.”

KUHN’s min-till, drilling and sprayer ranges featured at The Tillage Live Event

KUHN Farm Machinery displayed a wide selection of its minimum tillage, drilling and spraying equipment at this year’s Tillage Live event in Warwickshire on Wednesday 14th September. There was also a range of KUHN ploughs available to view.

PERFORMER – non-powered deep tine-disc cultivator

GetFileAttachment

The PERFORMER is KUHN’s most popular range of non-powered cultivators. Currently available in 4 and 5 metre versions, the PERFORMER can be operated in a) disc, tine and roller, b) disc and roller, c) tine and roller, d) disc only, or e) tine only formats.

The PERFORMER comprises twin disc gangs (10cm working depth), four rows of tines (35cm working depth), levelling discs and a 700mm diameter HD-Liner roller.

The disc gangs function independently of each other and comprise 510mm diameter serrated discs, with 30 in total on the 4 metre model and 38 on the 5 metre machine. Discs are mounted to afford 560mm underbeam clearance, allowing free flow of crop residues.

Tines are arranged in four rows with 280mm inter-tine spacing and 850mm underbeam clearance. Tines are curved for optimum mixing and operate with non-stop hydraulic safety at 800–1,200kg pressure. A choice of shares is available for different functionality.

Levelling discs are mounted on curved arms and have elastomer protection and there are height adjustable border discs. The HD-Liner roller is notched for better rotation and provides 225kg/m downward pressure. The roller can be lifted out of work when not required, for example when carrying out non-consolidation work.

Robust in construction, the PERFORMER is designed for low maintenance in the toughest conditions. All discs are mounted on maintenance-free hubs and the tines are drop-forged for added strength. The machine is fully hydraulically adjustable and folds to a transport width of 3 metres.

ESPRO – minimum tillage seed drill

GetFileAttachment

Capable of being pulled by a 200 hp tractor and drilling accurately at forward working speeds of up to 17km/h, the 6 metre KUHN ESPRO offers high levels of productivity and drilling accuracy without the need to invest in ultra-high power tractors.

Two rows of 460mm concave discs open the soil, incorporate all residues into the surface layers and create a fine tilth, even in heavy conditions. These discs are followed, in the centre of the drill, by a row of 900mm diameter press wheels which create an evenly consolidated soil profile for consistent soil-to-seed contact.

The large diameter of the press wheel helps to reduce the overall rolling resistance of the ESPRO, with the deep-treaded tyres also augmenting improved soil crumbling for a finer tilth. The tyres also feature a specially designed square profile to ensure uniform consolidation across the machine’s full working width. The press wheels are also arranged in a front-to-rear offset design to further reduce rolling resistance, with 85mm inter-wheel spaces helping to minimise soil bulldozing and maintain good soil flow.

The ESPRO uses KUHN’s CROSSFLEX seed bar and double disc SEEDFLEX coulters for precise seed placement and isISOBUS compatible. It can also be operated via KUHN’s VT50 (non-ISOBUS) terminals, with a joystick option also available. A headland management mode lifts the ESPRO’s working elements in sequence on approaching headlands to allow drilling to continue right up to the field edge.

Calibration is simple and quick to complete, and the front working discs, seeding depth and coulter pressure can all be set and adjusted using easy to access clips on hydraulic cylinders; there is no need to climb in or over the machine to make adjustments.

The ESPRO has also been designed to be easy to service with sealed bearings used throughout and a minimum number of pivot points and moving sections minimising the amount of maintenance required.

Additional options include track eradicators, front press wheels, pre-emergence markers and hydraulic or pneumatic brake systems.

LEXIS – 3,000 litre trailed sprayer

lexix.JPG

The new LEXIS 3000 has been designed as a lower cost, simpler sprayer, but one which still offers the same efficiency and ease of use as KUHN’s high end models such as the METRIS and OCEANIS.

The new machine is fitted with a 3,000 litre polyethylene tank (actual capacity is 3,150 litres) and a 320 litre rinsing tank, and is available with MTA2, MEA2, RHPM and RHPA folding aluminium booms ranging from 18 to 24 metres in width. TRAPEZIA or EQUILIBRA suspension systems maintain a stable spraying height on rough terrain while an independent anti-whiplash system protects the boom from damage during sudden braking and acceleration.

The LEXIS features KUHN’s MANUSET valve system which uses two ‘steering wheel’ type valves to control the machine’s main spraying and flushing circuits and requires 30-50% fewer valve operations compared to many competitor machines. A centralised maintenance area provides easy access to key filling, suction and bowl filters as well as the spraying pump for easier and quicker machine maintenance. Two sealed storage units provide a safe, clean and secure place to store essential Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

The LEXIS can be controlled via RPB or REB3 control boxes and can also be used with KUHN’s full-colour VISIOREB terminal which provides full set-up control and enables automatic, GPS controlled section cut-offs to be programmed.

The LEXIS 3000 has a hitch to axle length of 4.05m and an overall width of 2.23m. When fitted with standard 9.5 x 48 tyres (other tyre sizes are available) the sprayer has a transport height of 3.08m (18m boom) or 3.50m (24m boom). The 24m version has an unladen weight of 2,057kg.

Upgraded sprayer delivers simple, reliable and safe crop protection

KUHN Farm Machinery has upgraded its DELTIS mounted crop sprayer, with a new chassis, tank and valve system giving a simple, yet reliable and effective option for small to medium scale arable operations.

thumbnail_DELTIS 2 b %40300.jpg

The new DELTIS 2 sprayer has been designed for mixed farming enterprises and small-scale arable operations where ease of use, safety and reliability are key priorities. The new machine replaces the outgoing DELTIS range and features a number of significant upgrades including:

* A new chassis design which is both robust and lightweight, making the DELTIS 2 one of the lightest mounted sprayers on the UK market;

* A new tank design capable of holding up to 1,300 litres. A double-slope deep sump improves performance, even on steeply sloping terrain, and makes emptying and rinsing the tank easier than on previous models;
thumbnail_DELTIS 2 c %40300.jpg

* New controls are available in two formats: the manually operated MANUSET valve system which uses two steering wheel type valves to control the machine’s main spraying and flushing circuits, or the electronically controlled DILUSET+ system which allows operators to control the sprayer’s main spraying and flushing functions from the comfort of the tractor cab. Both versions are simple to use and require 30 to 50% fewer valve operations compared to other similarly sized machines.

The DELTIS 2 is available with a range of KUHN spraying booms including steel (MTS2) and aluminium (MTA2, MTA3, MEA3) booms in widths ranging from 15 to 24 metres. Whichever boom is selected, the new sprayer uses KUHN’s OPTILIFT suspension system: the side folding booms are mounted on a parallelogram lift system which ensures perfect vertical stability during spraying whilst also allowing the boom to float during road transportation.

thumbnail_DELTIS 2 a %40300.jpg

The DELTIS 2 also uses a brand new and patented chemical incorporation system which offers improved operator safety when handling hazardous crop protection products. The OPTIFILLER is made of a long-lasting, chemical resistant material and features a wide-necked filling port for ease of use. The induction bowl is capable of holding up to 42 litres of product and is operated via foot controls so that the operator does not need to bend down towards the incorporator when full of chemicals.

The whole OPTIFILLER system sits within the confines of the sprayer’s chassis for added protection and folds out for easier operator access during the filling process. A hand-held lance, which makes rinsing quick and easy to achieve, is fitted as standard.

KUHN SUPERSIZES ITS RANGE OF GRASS RAKES

KUHN Farm Machinery has super-sized its range of grass rakes with the addition of a 15 metre trailed version of its popular GA Gyrorake.
thumbnail_GA 15131 a %40300.jpg

The GA 15131 is the largest in KUHN’s range of four-rotor grass rakes, offering a variable working width of between 9.50 and 14.70 metres. The brand new trailed machine adds to the existing GA range which also includes a 13 metre trailed model, the GA 13131 and two semi-mounted machines, the GA 8731 (7.70 to 8.60m working width) and GA 9531 (8.40 to 9.30m working width) machines.

The GA 15131 is designed for use on farms where a high work output is required and features four rotors. The front two rotors are fitted with 13 tine arms, while the rearward rotors are equipped with 15 tine arms – all are fitted with four tines per arm.

Each rotor is mounted on four pivoting, large diameter wheels for excellent ground contouring and high load bearing. The wheels sit close to the tines to further improve ground following, while KUHN’s three dimensional rotor suspension system provides even greater stability when working at high speeds.

Rotor working height can be adjusted hydraulically as standard, with all four rotors powered by KUHN’s headstock-mounted hydraulic drive unit which gives the option to increase front rotor speed by up to 20% when working in lighter crops.

The four rotors work together to create one perfectly formed central windrow (from 140 to 250cm in width) and are controlled via a cab-mounted VT50 series terminal which is ISOBUS compatible and which allows operating sequences to be pre-programmed for easy u-turns. Each rotor can be lifted individually for a perfect finish and to give the machine high ground clearance for ease of manoeuvring and unhindered travel across uneven terrain.

The GA 15131 is characteristically robust and utilises Kuhn’s Masterdrive GIII gearbox to reduce power transfer stresses and provide reliable service with low maintenance: the Masterdrive’s patented two-stage design uses bevel and spur gear reduction and is totally enclosed for minimal maintenance – service intervals are every 200 hours.

The new rake requires a minimum tractor PTO power output of 115hp. It stands at 4 metres in height and folds to just 3 metres in width when fully folded, making road transportation easy and safe.

“Early users of the new machine have reported some fantastic working rates, with operators able to work at up to 4km/h faster compared to similar machines from other marques,” explains Duncan McLeish, KUHN’s UK Sales Manager. “The GA’s variable speed functionality allows the front pair of rotors to rotate 20% faster than the rear rotors, which not only makes for a cleaner swath but also allows rapid working rates in the heaviest of crops. For large scale farming operations and busy contractors, that is a huge benefit and one of which we are deservedly proud.”

iBIO+ – baler/wrapper combination

The iBIO+ features KUHN’s new twin film-on-film wrapping system which offers reduced wrapping costs and easier plastic recycling. This unique film binding system uses two film reels to bind the cylindrical side of the bale and offers several advantages compared to other film binding systems, not least the ability to use standard sized rolls (25 µm, 1500 m, 750 mm) therefore eliminating the need to order separate binding and wrapping film. The KUHN system also boasts quicker and easier roll loading thanks to a user-friendly system which hydraulically folds the film reels into their loading/unloading position.

New spreading module delivers infinitely adjustable fertiliser distribution pattern

thumbnail_AXIS 40.2 M EMC W(2).jpg

KUHN Farm Machinery has updated the spreading module on its range of AXIS fertiliser spreaders with a new system that is capable of making infinite spreading pattern adjustments.

The new VARISPREAD DYNAMIC spreading module replaces the KUHN VS 8 system which limited spreading section control across eight sections (four spreading to the left, four spreading to the right).

The new system uses fast-acting electrical actuators to continuously alter and adjust the spreading unit’s drop points, outlet positions and disc rotation speed on hydraulically driven machines. By altering these three attributes, the VARISPREAD DYNAMIC module can produce an infinitely adjustable spreading pattern across the machine’s entire working width.

The actuators operate at high speed for improved spreading accuracy and can produce an accurate spreading pattern even when working at high forward operating speeds. The new system can be controlled either manually or via GPS to prevent over-spreading at field margins.

The new VARISPREAD DYNAMIC system is available as standard on KUHN’s AXIS 40.2 M EMC W and AXIS 50.2 M EMC W machines and can be operated via KUHN’s QUANTRON A or E-2 control units. The VARISPREAD DYNAMIC system can also be used in conjunction with all major GPS positioning and guidance systems.

The VARISPREAD 4 spreading module with four controllable sections (two spreading to the left, two spreading to the right) remains available on KUHN’s MDS 19.1 Q, AXIS 20.2 W, AXIS 40.2 W and AXIS 20.2 M EMC W machines, and can also be specified on the AXIS 40.2 M EMC W.

New front-mounted disc mowers for faster solo or combination operations

KUHN Farm Machinery has expanded its range of front-mounted disc mowers with the addition of two new machines, both of which can be used either as solo machines or in combination with rear-mounted gear.

thumbnail_GMD 3525 F %40300.jpg

The GMD 3125 F (3.10m working width) and GMD 3525 F (3.50m) join KUHN’s existing line-up of 2.80 and 3.10m machines and have been designed for solo operations or for use in combination with rear-mounted mowers or as part of a triple gang setup where working widths can extend to 10 metres.

Both new models are equipped with KUHN’s maintenance-free OPTIDISC cutter bar (7 cutting discs on the 3125, 8 cutting discs on the 3525, two FAST-FIT knives per disc) and use twin PTO-powered swathing drums to produce a well-centred swath, the width of which can be varied between 1.00 and 1.20 metres.

The new machines feature KUHN’s LIFT-CONTROL hydraulic suspension system: this fast-acting, low ground pressure system allows the mower to accurately follow ground contours and safeguards the quality and cleanliness of the forage sward by reducing soil contamination as a result of ground impacts. It also helps to reduce wear and tear on working parts and skids, and keeps fuel consumption to a minimum.

The pendulum style suspension also enables a 30-degree range of cross-plane movement and up to 70cm of vertical travel. The mowing units can also rotate from front to rear in a range of -6.5 and +5 degrees for added ground contouring capability.

All machines in the GMD mower range are protected by KUHN’s PROTECTADRIVE system, which prevents impact damage by allowing the individual disc’s drive shaft to shear. KUHN’s hardwearing FLEXPROTECT side guards are also fitted as standard.

The addition of the GMD 3125 F and GMD 3525 F machines means KUHN now has a range of six front-mounted disc mowers, with models suited to all types of farms and tractors: from upland livestock to lowland dairy farms, and from low to high horsepower tractors.

FULL AUTO FUNCTION UPGRADE FOR KUHN’s LARGEST FIXED CHAMBER ROUND BALER

thumbnail_FB 3135 %40300.jpg

KUHN FARM MACHINERY has upgraded its largest fixed chamber round baler – the FB 3135 – with the introduction of a fully automated version which features automatic chamber opening, closing and unblocking functionality.

The new AUTOMATE upgrade consists of three main functions:
§ AUTOGATE – fully automatic tailgate operation: the baler chamber’s tailgate opens and closes automatically, enabling bales to be ejected without the need for any operator input or intervention. Visual and acoustic signals on the baler’s control terminal provide vital information at all stages of the baling and netting process to ensure the operator still has overall control of the machine at all times.
§ AUTODEBLOCK – automatic chamber unblocking: an overload protection clutch, which is activated whenever the baler’s crop intake is too high, automatically retracts the baler’s cutting knives and lowers the DROPFLOOR system. After the PTO is re-engaged, the baler’s rotor restarts and the crop is guided into the bale chamber. At this point the DROPFLOOR and knives automatically return to their working position. This process is also illustrated on the machine’s control terminal, ensuring the machine is operated in a safe and efficient manner at all times.
§ Automatic knife cleaning: the baler’s OPTICUT knives are automatically cleaned after a pre-defined number of bales. This function keeps the knife slots clean and debris free for easier knife removal and replacement.

Balers equipped with the new AUTOMATE system can be operated in a fully automatic or semi-automatic (press button to commence the baling cycle) mode. Alternatively, a manual override can be selected (press and hold buttons to activate the baling sequence).

The AUTOMATE system is available as an option on the existing FB 3135 at a cost of £2,428.

New square baler gives a 10% higher bale density and a 15% increase in baling capacity

thumbnail_LSB 1270 DX (1) %40300.jpg

KUHN Farm Machinery has added a new high density and high capacity machine to its range of LSB square balers.

The new LSB 1270 DX completes KUHN’s range of large square balers in the 120cm x 70cm (2x4) sector and has been developed in line with feedback received from existing LSB users. This new machine is designed for baling operations where high capacity and high levels of operating efficiency are required, regardless of varying crop conditions.

The LSB 1270 DX is capable of producing bales which are 10% more dense compared to previous models and can increase working capacity in dry or bulky swaths by up to 15%. The baler is equipped as standard with a double knotting system and revised driveline to achieve these improved performance figures.

The LSB 1270 DX delivers a 10% increase in bale density as a result of the following features:
§ Xtra gearbox: a new gearbox design gives up to 30% extra load capacity compared to the previous model.
§ Xtra main frame and bale channel: the new baler features a revised frame and bale channel which are able to handle the increased loads created by the Xtra gearbox.
§ Double knotter system: six knotters tie the bale halfway along the bale’s length as well as at the bale’s end. This system is constantly monitored by the machine’s electronic control terminal, which manages twine tension and gives a knotter failure alert, thereby enabling the operator to maximise bale density and capacity.
§ Xtra bale channel cylinders: bigger diameter cylinders create greater friction in the bale channel thereby increasing bale density.

An optional, mechanically driven crop roller further enhances the capacity of the LSB 1270 DX by enabling the machine to maintain a high working throughput even when baling dry and bulky swaths. The crop roller is protected by a cam clutch to ensure a trouble free intake when collecting large or uneven swaths and is able to increase working capacity by up to 15% compared to standard machines.

Wrapper upgrade simplifies automated bale loading sequence

KUHN Farm Machinery has upgraded the loading arm on its RW 1610 trailed bale wrapper, with a hydraulically operated width-adjuster making it easier to handle misshaped or over and under-sized bales.

thumbnail_RW 1610 hydraulic arm a %40300.jpg

KUHN’s RW 1610 self-loading round bale wrapper is capable of handling bales up to 1200kg in weight and with a diameter of up to 150cm. Featuring a rotating wrapping table equipped with four drive belts, the RW 1610 also boasts a fully automated loading function for faster bale handling and wrapping: the RW 1610 can auto-load and carry a second bale while the previous bale is still being wrapped.

For 2017, the RW 1610’s ‘Autoload’ system has been enhanced by the introduction of a hydraulically adjustable loading arm. The new system allows the wrapper’s operator to adjust the loading arms width from the tractor cab and without the need for any tools.

The adjustable arm makes it easier to load bales of varying diameters and also aids the handling of misshaped or poorly formed bales. The new arm also simplifies the loading of bales which aren’t perfectly aligned with the baler’s approach, therefore making it easier and less time-consuming to drive from one bale to the next.

The new loading arm is compatible with tractors equipped with a double-acting hydraulic valve outlet and can be retrofitted to M (manual cable), J (joystick) and C (computer) controlled models of the RW 1610.

KUHN’s PERFORMER RANGE GOES XL

Two new versions of KUHN’s PERFORMER have been added to the company’s range of non-powered, deep tine-disc cultivators: new 6 metre and 7 metre models join the existing line-up of 4 and 5 metre PERFORMER machines.

thumbnail_Performer 6000 (4).jpg

The PERFORMER quickly became KUHN’s most popular non-powered cultivator range after its launch in 2013. Originally only available in 4 and 5 metre working widths, the single-pass, multi-mode machine is now also available in 6 and 7 metre working width versions.

The PERFORMER offers great cultivation versatility thanks to its ability to operate with discs only with a roller for surface cultivation or with tines only with a roller for sub-soiling; it can also operate roller-free for non-consolidation work.

The new 6 and 7 metre machines are suited for use with tractors in the 360 to 700hp power range, and use twin independent disc gangs (10cm working depth), four rows of tines (35cm working depth), levelling discs and KUHN’s latest 700mm diameter HD-Liner roller.

The disc gangs function independently of each other and comprise 510mm diameter serrated discs, mounted to afford 560mm underbeam clearance, allowing free flow of crop residues.

Tines are arranged in four rows with 280mm inter-tine spacing and 850mm underbeam clearance.

The PERFORMER is designed for the toughest conditions and is fitted with a 900kg adjustable non-stop hydraulic tine safety system. It can also be used in conjunction with KUHN’s SH 600 seed drill which offers a capacity of 600 litres and is equipped with KUHN’s VENTA seed metering unit: in this configuration, the PERFORMER and SH 600 are the perfect combination for sowing oilseed rape and cover crops.

NEW COMBINATION MACHINE ADDED TO KUHN’s GROWING RANGE OF MIN-TILL TRAILED DRILLS

KUHN Farm Machinery has added a new combination version of its popular min-till seed drill to its expanding range of ESPRO trailed machines: the new ESPRO 6000 RC is a 6-metre working width, foldable machine which, unlike previous versions, now offers seed placement and fertiliser application in one pass.
thumbnail_ESPRO 6000 RC %40300.jpg

The ESPRO 6000 RC joins KUHN’s existing line-up of trailed min-till drills which includes the 3-metre rigid ESPRO 3000 and the 4 and 6-metre foldable ESPRO 4000 R and ESPRO 6000 R.

Originally launched in 2015, the ESPRO range has become a firm favourite with medium to large-scale arable farmers and contractors thanks to the low power requirement and high output capacity of the various models: the CROSSFLEX coulter bar, which is the key to the ESPRO range’s high working speeds, ensures seed is accurately placed at up to 17kph: each coulter is mounted on polyurethane blocks which allow the individual coulters to closely follow terrain contours. This ensures a consistent seeding depth across the machine’s full working width and enables accurate seeding to be carried out at high forward speeds.

In common with other machines in the range, the ESPRO 6000 RC uses two rows of cultivating discs followed by a single row of large diameter (900mm) press wheels which are offset and fitted with specially designed deep tread tyres to create an ideal seed bed.

An additional row of single disc coulters behind the working discs delivers fertiliser or a second seed variety directly in front of the press wheels and equidistant from each of the two main rows of seed: placing fertiliser to this level of precision ensures the seed receives the necessary nutrients during the early stages of growth whilst also minimising the risk of the young plants being scorched by coming into direct contact with the fertiliser.

The ESPRO RC is fitted with a 5,500 litre, twin-compartment hopper which is divided on a 60:40 (fertiliser:seed) basis. Two separate metering and distribution systems provide several potential modes of operation including the ability to sow: one seed variety from both compartments; seed and fertiliser from the separate compartments; two main crop varieties; or a mixture of two seed varieties with each sown to a different depth.

An optional set of front press wheels with in-cab pressure adjustment can also be added to provide a level soil surface ahead of the working discs and to prevent the machine from sinking into lighter or wet soils.

Retail prices for the ESPRO 6000 RC start at £132,323.
