Kuhn X formation 4.2 meter heavy duty discs - horsepower requirement?

On medium clay ground to prepare wheat stubble for power harrow combination drill for a 2nd wheat.

Thank you in advance.

My neighbour runs them on anything from 160hp. Generally does 2-3 passes to get a seedbed. No idea why he doesn’t run something that will do it in one pass though.

Ah that's annoying as both are too much horsepower than what I have...

I've got 120hp... would a weaving short-disc type thing do the job ok?

I run a trailed 5metres short disc and 6620 Deere pulls it fine on stubble but loose ground kills it.7710 will romp away with it in any conditions apart from when it’s really wet and it blocks solid.dont ask

Cheers Nick, and it would prepare the ground ok for a immediate entry for a combi drill thereafter?

Will depend on your dirt and conditions I am afraid. We have all seen land that won't come right with 2 passes of a powerharrow...

Discs, generally work best if pulled at speed. May be worth looking at a model that isn't as wide but pulling it faster.

Depending on conditions.ive got some fallow I’ve disced twice over last couple months that I’ll go straight into with combination, only drill I got.field been subsoiled too.doing same on remains of rape stubble, but most of that has failed and I’ve done that twice since April too,and subsoiled and will do rest when straw has gone.
