Lambing 2019

Nearly done here in 10 days (RIP and bless my teaser ram who had 14 days of bliss before getting squashed under a bale rack in a gale) only 23 out of 150 left to go. Cut down the numbers by 100 this year in a very hard cull and so glad I did as the weather has been awful and I've had to keep lambs in for up to 5 days and it's been standing room only in the shed but the sun is out today - yay- so the big turn out starts now. It's been a joy (touch wood) as no first time lambers so no chasing teenage mums round the barn after they've spooked at their lamb, just lovely obliging old girls who know the ropes. Had one lamb born with no anus, a tiddler who (I think) asperated milk when tube fed and later died and one born in the bag. One prolapse and no twin lamb disease - I think the spell of good weather at the end of Feb gave the grass a real boost which has made the ewes milk well. So far, this year has been the best lambing I've had, but the Lambing Gods will probably laugh at me and get their own back now I've said this.....!
My heart goes out to the poor folk in Wales and their flooded lambing shed. All the best for those still to lamb and I hope the sun shines for you.

Sheep and lambs have a very good way of making you look amateur. Had quads yesterday, all grand. Helping mother out bottle feeding as I didn't have any to splice to. Last feed 1 last night, out this morning to feed at 6, 1 dead and two dying.

A few losses over the last few days but just come in from the field where I’ve got lots of happy lambs running around doing well so that certainly helps morale after a couple hard days!!
Hope everyone is getting on well. Only around a dozen left to go here now (y)

Ours finally started at the weekend with a surprise pair of twins and a single. Monster tup lamb born yesterday but looking like he's probably going to die in true sheep style, lost another two in flood water. Hoping things get better
