New tractors, loaders and combines make their debut at LAMMA

A comprehensive collection of tractors, loaders, combines and ATVs will be available to view under one roof when the LAMMA show makes its debut at the NEC Birmingham on 8th and 9th January 2019.

Several leading manufacturers have already announced which of their latest machines will take pride of place on their stands, and further announcements are expected in the next few weeks.

We also take a look at the latest tyres and accessories on offer to help keep older machines running efficiently.

Tractors, loaders and combines

Fendt has chosen LAMMA to provide the new Fendt Ideal combine with its first appearance at a UK agricultural show. The combine has been developed from scratch, developed alongside parent company AGCO’s global centres of expertise to deliver a machine that gives perfect results under any harvesting conditions.

Special attention was paid to efficiency, grain and straw quality, absolute reliability, easy and logical user-friendliness, as well as a revolutionary sensor technology for optimal machine setting.

The Fendt Ideal 8 & 9 feature high-performance MAN engines, and the Ideal 7 features an AGCO power engine. This ensures maximum output together with efficient fuel consumption. All models offer the unique Helix threshing unit and separating system. The process requires much less power and significantly increases the output and machine efficiency with perfect straw and grain quality.

Showgoers will also find a comprehensive selection from the Fendt Vario wheeled tractor line-up, from the popular, multi-role 300 Series, (the Fendt 313 received a 'Tractor of the Year' award at the recent EIMA Show in Italy) right up to the range-topping 1000 Series.

A new range of ‘stockman’ tractors from Landini available with a comprehensive choice of transmission packages will make its UK debut.

The Landini 5 Series comprises three models with power outputs from 99hp to 113hp, a choice of synchro or power shuttle transmissions with creep and economy pto options, and mechanical or electronic operation of the 4750kg rear linkage.

A generous standard specification includes an air suspension driver’s seat, cab air conditioning and a radio/media player with Bluetooth for hands-free phone use. Front and rear windscreen wash/wipe and a push-back hydraulic pick-up hitch are also included in the package. All are powered by Deutz engines.

A new range of McCormick four-cylinder tractors with a number of performance and driver comfort advances will be launched at LAMMA.

The McCormick X7.440 P6-Drive destined for the event will represent a three model line-up of higher-spec four-cylinder tractors with maximum power outputs from 141hp to 176hp with ‘power boost’ on all models and a new slick-shifting powershift transmission.

The new Tier 4 Final versions of the McCormick X7.4 tractors can handle a wide range of tasks on livestock, arable and mixed enterprise farms. There is a choice of simpler-spec Efficient and full-feature Premium semi-powershift models, and stepless transmission models to the Premium specification.

ArmaTrac will launch its latest model, the 1254 Lux CRD4 at LAMMA. This machine is powered by a 120hp Deutz engine linked to ZF transmission and is Tier 4 compliant.

Armatrac has been producing tractors since 2003 with a focus on designing and engineering for simplicity and efficiency. This latest higher horsepower machine has improved fuel efficiency coupled with high performance and durability, says the manufacturer.

Optional features for JCB Fastrac 4000 Series tractors that enable farmers and contractors to equip their machines for non-agricultural applications will be highlighted at the LAMMA show for the first time, alongside farm-spec versions of the 175-235hp 4000 Series and 306-348hp 8000 Series machines.

A Fastrac 4220 equipped with these ‘utility’ features will underscore the tractor’s suitability for operating rear-mounted, front-mounted and deck-mounted equipment individually or in combination for applications such as snow clearance, salt spreading and roadside vegetation control.

The features include a DIN-standard mounting frame for highways snow ploughs, snow blowers and powered sweepers; a stability control system to keep the tractor level when operating heavy long-reach vegetation mowers; and a purpose-built rear deck frame for quick mounting and demounting of specialist spraying equipment and salt spreaders.

Schäffer returns to LAMMA with its latest generation of loaders, which employ the latest smart technologies for lower fuel consumption, reduced maintenance, increased comfort and eco-friendliness.

Latest functions and features include High Traction Force (HTF), which automatically regulates the thrust so the loader can supply the highest possible thrust even in a high gear.

HTF comes into its own when digging into aggregate material. If more thrust is required, the hydraulic motor adapts automatically, without the driver having to interfere manually, increasing driving comfort and speeding up work.

ATV/UTV

BRP (Bombardier Recreational Products) Can-Am Outlander 6x6 450 T will make its UK debut at the event.

The latest addition to the Can-Am portfolio is powered by a 38hp single-cylinder, liquid-cooled Rotax 450 engine and comes with industry-leading towing capacity (1,650lb/750 kg), front and rear racks with cargo extenders, and LinQ accessory attachment points.

Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) delivers optimal torque output and the machine is fitted with Visco-Lok front differential system.

Quadzilla is exhibiting its new diesel UTV, which comes as comes road legal as standard and boasts many standard parts such as a winch, power steering and a fully enclosed cab. The company is also showing the rapidly growing high-quality and feature-packed CF Motor range of ATVs and UTVs.

Tyres and tracks

OBO Tyres, part of the Magna Tyres Group, is introducing its system of rubber track retreading to LAMMA, which is said to offer considerable cost savings.

The in-house track renewal machine equips old track bases, which are often in excellent condition with new blocks, which have a similar quality to new product. The company offers a wide choice of rubber quality, number and size of blocks and block position.

Bridgestone is showing its latest ultra-high-performance agricultural tyre, the VX-Tractor. Lugs are longer and wider to increase wear life, while extra body in the rubber increases strength. The premium six-layer tread belt also helps to protect against damage and potential punctures. According to Bridgestone, the VX-Tractor has considerably less slip than its competitors.

Continental Tyres will be exhibiting for the first time at LAMMA, unveiling its full agricultural tyre portfolio spearheaded by the latest additions TractorMaster and CombineMaster.

The TractorMaster, an advanced tractor tyre and CombineMaster for combine harvesters complement the existing agricultural tyre portfolio around the standard Tractor70 and Tractor85 tyres. Like their standard companions, the new tyres are equipped with N.flex technology and feature new lug technology d.fine with a 5% larger lug surface than standard tyres, for higher traction and reduced operating costs.

Cab comfort

Mobile climate control specialist Eberspächer is making its appearance at LAMMA. Products on the stand include two Duratronic roof-top air conditioners, with cooling outputs of 2 and 2.4kW suited for off-road applications and vehicles with or without a hatch opening in the roof.

Also on show are the new Airtronic diesel-fuelled cabin heaters. These 2 and 4kW models run independently of the engine’s own heating system and can be activated by timer or app remote control for pre-heating.

Workshop

Sykes-Pickavant’s Silbertool range offers is an advanced solution for reforming external threads on components such as axle studs, shafts and hydraulic threads without cutting. The tool uses non-cutting technology to repair the thread by shaping it back to its original geometry, rather than removing material that can weaken components.

Available in four sizes (M5 – M110), the tools are hand-operated with minimal effort, so no external energy source is required.

KUHN FARM MACHINERY AT LAMMA'19

As well as some of the Company’s well-established models and ranges, the following new machines will also be on display

MERGE MAXX 950 – bi-directional belt merger

Aimed at large-scale grassland operations, the MERGE MAXX 950 uses two adjustable, variable width and bi-directional merger belts to give a maximum grass pick-up width of 9.50 metres.

The bi-directional design of the MERGE MAXX 950’s twin belts provides multiple windrow delivery options: forage can be delivered into a single central windrow, a single lateral windrow (left or right side), two lateral windrows (one either side) or a central and left or right lateral windrow.

Pick-up and windrow width can be adjusted to suit the quantity and type of forage material being harvested, thus enabling the number of passes and associated costs to be reduced. For lateral windrows, the windrow width can be varied between 1.00 and 1.50m. For central windrows, the windrow can be up to 2.20m in width.

Auto-regulating rollers at the front and side of the pick-up unit self-adjust their position according to crop thickness. These in turn pass a consistent and constant supply of forage to the merger belts, thus enabling the MERGE MAXX to produce a uniform, airy and faster-drying windrow which makes it easier for the subsequent baler or chopper to collect large volumes of grass: for forage harvesters this can equate to a 2-3km/h increase in forward operating speed.

The MERGE MAXX 950 folds to 3.00m (width) by 7.40m (length) by 3.60m (height) for easy transportation between fields and is compatible for tractors with a minimum power output of 85hp

MAXIMA 3 – new generation precision seed drill

Available in 6 to 12 row versions and capable of drilling crops with row spacings from 37.5 to 80cm, the new MAXIMA 3 range comprises 12 models in a choice of configurations including telescopic, trailed, foldable and telescopic with adjustable spacing.

The new MAXIMA 3 drills use an improved seed selection and ejection system which enables accurate seed placement at working speeds of up to 10km/h. Accuracy is also enhanced by a new seeding unit parallelogram which is reinforced in key areas, including at critical hinges and linkages, for added stability, robustness and longevity.

A new coulter pressure system, capable of producing up to 180kg of downward pressure, also enhances seeding accuracy by ensuring consistent depth control.

The MAXIMA 3 range also boasts an electrically driven seed metering system which allows application rates to be adjusted manually on the move or in accordance with a pre-prescribed seeding map. The electrically operated system also enables GPS or manually controlled row shut-off.

Each seeding unit’s settings (depth, ground pressure, furrow closing, etc.) can be adjusted easily and quickly by hand and without the need for any specialist tools. This not only makes setting the machine up more efficient, but also makes maintenance tasks less time consuming.

A wide choice of optional equipment, including angle-adjustable V-MAX rear closing wheels which provide a furrow closing pressure of up to 45kg, fertiliser hoppers, front, rear and intermediate press wheels, clod cleaners and trash wipers is also available.

OCEANIS 2 – trailed crop sprayer

KUHN Farm Machinery has recently added four new models to its range of OCEANIS trailed crop sprayers: the OCEANIS 5002, 5602, 6902 and 7702 machines have tank capacities of 5000, 5600, 6900 and 7700 litres respectively and are available with compact, all-aluminium booms in widths of 24 to 48 metres. The OCEANIS 7702 will be on display at LAMMA.

The new sprayers are fully ISOBUS compatible, enabling them to be controlled from a single in-cab terminal such as KUHN’s CCI 1200 console. A separate ISOCLICK control box which places the key sprayer controls (section control, boom height and angle) within fingertip reach can also be used. The new sprayers are also CANBUS compatible and can be operated via KUHN’s VISIOREB or REB3 controllers.

Each new model is available with KUHN’s MULTISPRAY system which uses electric nozzle holders to enable in-cab nozzle selection, automatic nozzle selection to suit the forward working speed and to maximise the accuracy of variable rate applications, plus individual nozzle control to reduce overlapping.

KUHN’s e-SET cleaning system automates the tank rinsing sequence, making the OCEANIS 2 extremely safe and efficient to use, while a new Closed Transfer System (CTS) chemical induction bowl – the EASYFLOW system – further enhances operator safety by enabling chemicals to be added and chemical containers to be cleaned without the risk of the operator coming into contact with any harmful substances.

KUHN’s self-levelling boom system – BOOM ASSIST TOTAL PRO – keeps the spray boom in the optimum position and height irrespective of field and crop conditions, thereby increasing spraying precision and reducing spray drift. This system is equipped with a ‘HYBRID mode’ which uses three sensors to distinguish between crop canopy and ground level, thereby improving spraying accuracy in high density crops such as oilseed rape or potatoes, or where the crop has lodged.

All four new OCEANIS models are fitted with easy-rinse polyester tanks with internal baffles for improved machine stability. Drawbar, axle, parallelogram and boom suspension systems provide additional stability and boom security when spraying and during transportation.

OPTIMER XL 5000 – independent disc stubble cultivator

The OPTIMER XL range of stubble cultivators consists of mounted and trailed machines in working widths of 3 to 5 metres. The 5-metre trailed OPTIMER XL 5000 will be on display at LAMMA.

All versions feature two rows of independent discs followed by a roller bar which can be equipped with a variety of KUHN press wheels. Large diameter (620mm) notched discs made of 6mm thick steel are capable of working at depths from 5 to 15cm: working depth is adjusted manually as standard or hydraulically as an option. The large diameter of the discs makes them able to incorporate high volumes of trash and crop residue easily and efficiently, with working speeds of 7 to 17km/h possible.

Each disc is mounted on four elastomer blocks which enable them to move independently over obstacles, thereby maintaining an even working depth across the machine’s full width, even when working in very stony conditions. Adjustable soil retaining discs which can be angled 14o to the front or 14o rearwards and by up to 12o vertically prevent soil being thrown out of the cultivated strip and maintain level and consistent seedbed preparation.

The second row of discs is followed by a roller bar which can be equipped with a choice of KUHN’s tube or ring rollers to ensure perfect soil tamping irrespective of the type of soil being worked. All discs and rollers are mounted on sealed-for-life, no-maintenance bearings.

Vaderstad at LAMMA

The world-record Väderstad Tempo planter is known for combining enormous capacity with an outstanding planting precision. Now, the Tempo family is growing and we are introducing the all-new Tempo L 24, says Mattias Hovnert, Senior Vice President Global Sales & Marketing at Väderstad, and continues:

Tempo L 24 is designed for high capacity precision planting of small seeded crops, such as oilseed rape and sugar beets.

Tempo L 24 have 24 row units and is available with a row spacing at 450, 457, 500 or 508mm. Each seed hopper holds 25 litres and the machine can be equipped for fertiliser metering with a 5 000 litre fertiliser hopper.

Thanks to the Tempo seed meter with the patented PowerShoot technology, each seed is granted the exact same start in all conditions. Since PowerShoot takes full control of the seed all the way down to the soil; gravity, vibrations and slopes is removed from the equation. Thereby, Tempo delivers an unmatched precision at very high speed, says Mattias Hovnert.

Everyone has been moaning about one issue or another with LAMMA for many years. It was the traffic at Newark. Then the move to Peterborough. Then traffic again. Always weather and the fact it was too far away for some to travel to. Probably moans about it being to specific to machinery, so in cake the chemical brigade and land agents. Then the fact it wasn’t specific enough to machinery. Again weather moans. Bit more traffic moaning. Too many people then not enough. For a long time it’s been said it’s the end of a good show. So after all of the ‘constructive and helpful’ critism the show decides a sensible way to address it is to move indoors with good travel connections like the European shows. Moans about that a plenty. The big manufacturers just listen to the show goers and get the impression it’s not the best way to spend their money. If someone was to put on a big machinery show annually or bi annual that was undercover and god forbid ticketed (poor hard up farmers having to pay to get in a show) to help reduce the cost to the stand holders it would still be wrong for some. LAMMA has generally ticked along as a reasonable show in my opinion, if the weather let it. Now Cereals is a whole different discussion.........
