Large scale egg producers loosing money hand over fist

The irony is that folk have been willing to invest large sums of money into free-range egg production on an industrial scale, when it is well known that it is far less welfare friendly than well-managed indoor systems.

We nearly invested in a shed 18 years ago. Organic movable.
Block of land came up next door so was a no brainer.
Land value has gone up and up.
Layer shed would be knackered by now.

Think it was right decision and sad to see egg job going bad.

Hasn't the Welsh government piled Grant's into egg units?
IF you had gone into eggs 18 years ago you would have paid that investment its the last year and half which as been crap
the welsh government has given 40% grants on a few sheds

Takes some understanding, i know a welsh farmer who had thousands of ewes who went into layers 6-7 yrs ago and reckons its the best things he's done, cannot wait to get his third unit up! Is there a grant they can fiddle to make it pay better?

If T could get a 40% grant I would build a new shed

Cant c banks doing that are the moment !!!!!
I don't have chickens but I remember my bank manager telling me that his bank were rather more cautious on chicken loans after Black down went under as it was a wake up call to them at the time.
