they are offing better prices for new contracts but if new, shed take off and the empty sheds come back into production make Shure you can afford to lose £1-4 a bird per crop

I am afraid it is the oldest trick in the Farming Book. Pay more for new build and those that have low depreciation suffer. Normally this should be the most profitable time.

As I have commented before the only thing missing on a Broiler or egg contract is price!!

still seem to be a few new sheds going up. Has the increase in feed price been reflected by increased egg prices?

Some packers are offering reasonable prices for new production whilst refusing to give existing producers a price rise! Otherwise I can't see how building sheds is viable if you're borrowing the money.

We have had a modest price rise over the summer, which was supposed to restore profitability after a lean 18 months. That has all been wiped out and more by the feed price increases.

Maybe producers on feed trackers have had their costs covered, I don't know.
