had this lely mower con 3.2 from new for 4 years.this year we have put a case 165 on the front and I’ve mowed about 10 acres of 40 and the belts that drive the conditioner had broke with heat off the pulleys and gearbox. Iam in a nice crop of new seeds mowing speed 13 kph.how hot should the gearbox get? And do you think iam pushing it a bit too much?

The second gearbox does get hotter than the first one. Those belts must have been slack,I’ve blocked the conditioner on mine with real heavy crops, plenty of heat and smoking belts but still on originals.

Is there oil in it.....
Check the belt tensioner hasnt siezed

.

I gave it a service in the spring checked everything parked it up and left it. Then went mowing this afternoon.luckily I had a spare set of belts the gearbox was a little short of oil .maybe the belts went slack since the service
What usually happens is you tighten the tension on the belts but the tensioner is siezed and doesnt move

Are the conditioner tines worn? If they don't still have a square edge on they need turning out replacing.
Yeh right, lely conditioner tines round off after about 300 acres,by which time all the nuts will have seized with grass juice. There are about 150 of them...

I’ve mowed all day with this mower no problem. But how hot should the conditioner gearbox has been very hot , that hot that you can not touch it. Surly this isn’t right????

If they don't have a square edge on the end then they will just sap power and take twice as much driving. And in turn heat the gearbox and belts
Sorry don’t agree, rounded tines won’t do much conditioning, but I don’t think they will heat the gearbox. The second gearbox on mine has always run hotter than the first one.Start to worry if it’s burning the paint off.Make sure the breather isn’t blocked, easily overlooked.

My mate had one. 8ft. 120hp was on its knees.
fitted new conditioner tines and it was a different machine
