Lifting telescopic boom

I have a jd 3420 with a split hydraulic pipe under the boom.
How do I lift the boom to access the pipe ?
I am assuming the safety mechanism that stops the boom falling is stopping it just being lifted by another loader.

Had the same problem with a manitou a few years ago the pipe feeding the joystick bust so had no way of lifting the boom. Ended up lifting it up slowly with a block and tackle over a day or two. Got it up enough to get the pipe off.

That's what I fear I will have to do. But there must be a safer way.

Had the same one go on 3220. Was on my own so just used my gas forklift and then lifted under head stock until the wheels came up a bit on loader then pulled the joystick on loader so it let the spool move and hence boom would come up and then repeated process until I could get boom lock in.

The idea of the check valves on the rams is that it will not let the ram move if a hose is gone. Your machine shouldnt have let you do that so the valve and or the seals are not working very well. Its possible sometimes over a few days to get some movement but if everything is good then no it doesnt work just by lifting the boom and or working the control.

once your this high you can quite easy unbolt the whole check valve off the lift ram, but it is messy :ROFLMAO: if its on the deck then you got no change of getting to lift ram hoses or check valve and the pin in the top of the ram is also bloody hard to get too.

i think the JD is easier to access the check valve than a manitou, you would just lift the weight off the boom so the ram is slopping about on the pins, and then undo the check valve cartridge and remove it, it is messy though! and for gods sake make sure there is no load on the ram or the hoses too it. Check valves tend to blow out and through someones head if you dont get all the pressure off.

Not sure I have enough room to get to it (check valve).
Was thinking of lifting it over time high enough to get the ram pin out. Then lift boom up and away followed by the two rams. Only then will I have enough room to access the split hose.

Main hose from pump to valve block at the front.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh, that's a pest!!
I did one of those many years ago. Fortunately, the boom was in the air a bit so I could get underneath ok..
I had a replacement made from multispiral hose.
I assume you can't access the pins for the lift and compensation rams??

Not yet,
I have begun to jack up the boom as described but it will take some time.
As soon as I can access the pin , it's coming out. Might even lift the fuel tank out of the way too.
It just seems wrong and potentially quite a dangerous way to achieve it.
Thanks to all for their advice.
