Quick question.

last application of liquid fertiliser to go on wheat.

Want to minimise scorch.

So question is do it last thing at night or first thing in morning?

We are getting heavy dews.

Not in the heat of a sunny day, as the drops can sit on the leaves and burn the leaf tissue like a magnifying glass.
Applying to a wet leaf will see it bead and run off, so just before or after dew or rain is ideal. Anything other than a dry leaf.

I've found that putting it on in the early morning even with a heavy dew generally gets some scorch, and worse if it's been windy, if I have to put it on at flag leaf I will start late afternoon 6pm ish then stop before midnight. I assume that the dew makes the fertiliser run off overnight but if I do it in the morning it can dry on the leaf in the morning sun.

Made a start this morning on dew. suns came out, so will leave rest till evening.
Be careful, plants need to be dry so fert runs off leaf. I would only go in a wet leaf if it’s raining.
Don’t want scorch at this time of year.
I would go in the early evening.
Haven’t managed to do my wheat as still planting spuds.

It’s quite late now, and to avoid scorching the flag, one option is to dilute it down with a third water. This will take the sting out of it, although it will slow your output up a bit.

If you do this, make sure you adjust the volumetric weight accordingly in your settings to keep the flow accurate.

In the past I’ve even diluted it to 50% in really hot weather and it was absolutely fine, and didn’t scorch at all. A bit of a faff though.

I switched back to using granular for the final timing to avoid the scorch issues with the flag leaf. Also helps not having to leave a week between applications.

Scorch is the biggest drawback of liquid. After 6 yrs of use, I now compromise timing and get last dose on before leaf 2 is out, so at least minimises potential damage. We are a dry farm, so being earlier doesn’t hurt yields.
Sometimes when conditions are iffy you get no scorch, and others when you think ideal it scorches🤷. Leaf wax is critical I think.

Wet leave that dry with Fert on scorch
dry leaf less so

rain while Ferting very low scorch but once it stops raining stop ferting till the leaf dries

used to use liquid but now on solid due to price and scorch and sprayer cost compared to a spinner
