what do you pay if you have to pay someone else, a professional livestock haulage company, the reason i ask is ive just got the lastest bill, and its roughly around 5 percent of what the animals sold for at the mart ? I know it sounds a bit like whats the length of string thread but anyone care to put any examples out there?

Not enough information to help you

What were you expecting to pay?

How much stock?

Distance?

Notice period?

Regular contractor?

Species?

Weight?

Loading time?

Unloading time?

Charge for wash out?

Enough time for the haulier to arrange a back load?

Where in the Country are you?

£250 would be about right if the man has included a decent margin for himself.
It’s 60 miles, I’m assuming no back load, 3hrs of the drivers time inc loading plus an hr washing out. Depreciation on vehicle and repairs/maintenance. Plus a small profit of course.
You can’t expect people to work for nothing.

We are based in Scotland

Usually get a full lorry away at a time, so 38 or 39 bullocks!

Journey to Slaughterhouse is about 1 hour 30 mins, and it is usually around £700 for Haulage

Your stores can't of fetched much................perhaps you need a different breed or more of them to fill the lorry !?!

If they fetched £700 each, then they would be 4% for hauliage.

I get charged £100 for a 25 mile journey, no waiting this end, easy loading, have been having the same firm every Monday for 25 plus years unless it is a Bank Holiday then they come on Tuesday

i was kind of thinking what are you left when all the costs, everyone else has taken their cut? profit? so say you get 1,000 pounds for a animal, first cut if you sell threw a mart is mart commisson and levy etc, then second is if you pay for haulage, but even if you use your own means, ie vehicle and ivor williams plus your time, that has a cost ?
