Do you or have you ever grown it on heavier land?
Yes we’ve been growing it for about 6 years now as a replacement for Solstice. It’s a consistent yielder and if you put enough N on then protein isn’t an issue either.

Probably learned i sold it too cheap now.neighbor paying £12 an acre apparently for snetterton power station.our barley was baled in claas quadrants and got 10 an acre.i think 2ft x2ft x8ft.no idea what they weigh though
Nick...
No that was in the swath.the buyer baled it.Does that mean you sold it at 45 baled?
Maybe it was a differant model claas baler them.definatly the size i mentionedClass quadrants of dry straw usually weigh in the region of 1/3t each, give or take. They are a lot wider than 2' though.
Could be 1150 miniQuadrants are 4ft wide
Sorry meant yield.
Lift header up a bit more. . Put less through . Chopper is on here Bales some barley chopped two fields barley all wheat choppedWe are having good crops of straw too.Its making combining a little slower trying to keep walker losses to a minimum.
Your quite right, times change one day your man might be paying a little extra when things are tight because you let him have a little cheaper when things were tight for him, thats the right way, i found myself looking for new supplier this year and the greed has astounded me !Weighbridge straw yields are between 1.8-2t per acre sold
Our swaths look like mountains if cut with some moisture but much smaller when cut very dry
Happy with straw return - maybe coukd be higher if I rung every last £ out the buyer but am a firm believer that everyone needs a profit if you want relationships to last
If I wanted max return I would bale and store myself but we simply have better things to do with the time it would take

Suprised to see a committed direct driller baling his valuable crop residue and soil foodWeighbridge straw yields are between 1.8-2t per acre sold

Cant see it dropping much, i think you will be baling next year, time will tell. Can’t ignore the price this year ! 50% of the extra income will be invested in extra compost / fym etc
Won’t be a regular thing unless prices stay so high
