Londoner not welcome in Cornwall

He's not a Londoner just an attention seeker. He was born and bred near St Just but moved to London to follow his career in dealing art. Rumor is he was left alot of money by an old lady who was also in to art. He has bought a bit of land back in his home town, St Just, and has been changing things so has obviously ruffled a few feathers down there. He is eccentric, gay and likes to wear dresses. There is little to no truth in that article.
we have one a bit like him up here . although i don't think he is gay ! but he likes buying property and annoying the locals oh and is a cyclist who wears a camera on his hat :finger:

I do find demographics quite interesting, I mean do you think the townsfolk hated the country folk when they invaded the towns in the industrial revolution and houses in the countryside were deserted. I think you have to be careful what you wish for, a piece on Radio 4 this morning about Empty Spain which is what they call vast areas in Spain that are depopulating because there are no jobs and only older people remain, 90% of people live in 30% of the area there. There are big protests about it. I love going to North Norfolk and when we go we do spend money in the shops, pubs etc got to be a good thing for rural areas surely. Yes house prices rise but only in the sought after villages, the same here I happen to live in an expensive village and the youngsters who have been brought up here moan there is no affordable housing in the village. The next village along is cheaper and Dunstable only 3/4 miles away cheaper still. The people buying house here are not 25, they have generally moved from somewhere smaller/cheaper. I am very fortunate, and I think maybe a lot of other farmers are too….

Listened to something on the radio this afternoon, saying when Scotland joined with England, lots of Scots moved to London and got very good jobs, that is why the locals denigrated "Haggis" as they were being outcompeted for the best positions.

People down here moan about development but there is nothing worse than a depopulating area.
Having recently been to the north of the Isle of Lewis there is something uniquely sad about abandoned houses.

Perhaps all those empty hotels on the Spanish Costas present an almost as sad a picture; as does the ancient city of Ephesus and the old battle fields of past wars, both won and lost. :(
