Looking to rent a field for two day - 200 person event

Hi there,

I'm looking to host a two day party in July 2024. I was looking either for people who are interested in renting out field space or woodland to talk with, or general advice about the best way to get in touch with people who are looking to rent out space.

The team who are behind running it take our responsibilities to the land owners seriously, and will be implementing a leave no trace policy and all our attendees will be aware of this.

Just looking to host some good clean fun and hope I can get some leads through this.

Thanks for taking the time to read,

IMO that is quite a big undertaking.
£10 million public liability as a minimum. Toilets; sixteen absolute minimum. Plus cleaning them every other hour from 07.30 up ‘till 21.00hrs.
Water.
Rubbish is another major consideration.

Tree safety. Ring fence every veteran tree.

Oh, I could go on but I’d want £15k minimum and I’ve not even asked about the insurance costs. Friday 16.00 hrs to Sunday 16.00.
£4k for one days filming and that was in 2012 and £30 million public liability. Those well known actors cost some😆 to have out of action.

Add to that dealing with possibility of drug needles for countless years.

Honestly is this the best you can come up with. Grow up
If you don’t think it will be a problem after such a party you should grow up. you mentioned how you take your responsibility to the land owners seriously yet reply with insults rather than explain what measures would be taken to either avoid or rectify such a problem. Judging by the number of people offering up some ground to accommodate you I’d say many others have reservations on you proposals. Good luck.

I really am baffled. Why on earth would you assume that people attending the party would be injecting themselves with drugs? You made a lazy response based on tired stereotypes and clearly have no interest in taking part. Why say something horrible when you could say nothing at all? I dignified your answer in the only way that seems suitable. I take my responsibilities seriously, but don't take seriously those who make ill-informed assumptions about the conduct of people coming to the party. We'll be having fun, and leaving no trace.

To be fair at that sort of event powder is in little zip bags and snorted up the nose, the reason I know that is unfortunately I sometimes find the little bags that have been mistakingly dropped on floor of toilets in pub toilets,I would imagine the type of addict that uses a needle has unfortunately moved on to harder substances and does it at home

the chap above, called Michael, would soon tell you about the cleaning up after some events.

you do not say, what event you are holding, so one automatically thinks the worst, and things can get very messy. Down to having to go across the whole area, with a tractor mounted strong magnet, to hopefully collect all the needles, discarded. And the mess, left behind, takes a small army a couple of weeks to clear up, people just discard their rubbish, tents, boots etc.

so, what is the party for ? That is the crucial bit of information, it could be a simple, well organised bash, to a rave that gets out of control.

then there is the time preparing the site, organising toilets, sewage disposal, and the big ones, planning, insurance and policing, its not just a 2 day event, its 2 weeks min.

but without knowing what the event is, sensible to work upwards from the worst case scenario.

More seriously, my neighbour has a site that has been used for illegal parties a number of time. The biggest issue with waste is nitrous oxide bottles.

There is a small festival just down the road from me that rents some land. By the time they have cleared up you wouldn’t know it had ever happened. It’s all down to who’s running everything

We’re planning a max capacity of 200 people so I think some of the catastrophes listed above won’t come to fruition! We’re a sensible bunch, are planning to put on a bar, some food and two small stages. We’re familiar with the licensing requirements and really do care about keeping the countryside clear of rubbish. Hope this clears up some of the confusion. If you know anyone who’d be interested - let me know.

A farming friend of my Father was approached by some folk in the summer of 1989 asking to rent a field.

The rest is history.

There are locals who hate the man for what he did and others think he’s a saint.
He rented a field and it became famous!

It ranks alongside Treworgey Tree Fayre and is revered by the younger generation🤣
He was a lovely man and had a great sense of humour. 😊

You may be "a sensible bunch" but the mix of music and booze is almost certain to attract a few undesirables. You will need plans in place to keep them out, which would likely involve fencing the whole area and employing a reputable security firm.

Wow!
I was at Treworgey and that was certainly an eye opener. Maximum visual input, whacky people, amazing ladies and I bought home one of the best rescue dogs I have ever had.
Dear Stuart. His death was tragic but he brought the farm back from the brink by charm, skill and determination.

I hope your memories of partying in his field are happy and memorable ones.

TBH I was up for renting things like fields, old Sawmill yards, cottages & machinery.
It put a little spice into life and I met some great people from all walks.

I met some famous ‘actors’ but always kept well out of their busy ‘in character’ days and concentrated on making sure that the rental was money-well-spent and the day went especially smoothly.

To @finjohnston, I’m sure you’ll get your field. I worked on £20 pp per day over three days to get to my figure plus the ‘hassle’ addition.
If I still operated in this field (sorry) I would probably be sending a PM to you.
I wish you well and I’m sure something will turn up. Post hay making is a good time FYI.
PM me as I still may be able to pass on a contact number of someone who may be tickled but don’t hold any expectations😆
