Mag Chloride in a blend bin

I want to have the Mag Chloride put in the blend with use for the close to calving cows.

We will buy a small blend bin to put it in will there be a corrosion issue?

Get the stuff added to the blend properly. It's not worth the grief/risk. If a cow was to eat a lump of the stuff it will be dead as a dodo.

Put the mag chloride into their water supply for now to use it up.

At the moment i'm just dropping the bag on the floor and breaking up any lumps before I put it in the loader bucket.

Never seemed to be able to get it right when we put it in the water. I think it was putting too many off drinking.

Yes, mag chloride tastes awful so they won't want to eat it or drink water with it in. If you are getting a blend delivered specifically for dry cows it is probably worth getting dry cow mineral put into the blend when it is manufactured.

Yeah at the moment having the dry cow blend in totes have to bucket it into the loader bucket with the minerals and Mag Chloride. Complete PITA.

Mill does mix blend/mag/minerals together for other people but they either have it in totes for smaller farms or much bigger farms are having it on the floor. They don't have anyone blowing it in a bin to ask about corrosion and it sticking.

It’s very corrosive - to both mild and stainless steels.
Fibre glass or GRP bin?

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
