Making a Hole in forklift tine

Has anyone drilled a hole in the end of a FLT tine using a mag drill, or is it a gas cutter job. Don’t want to knacker a mag cutter up if it’s a non starter because of the type of steel and it’s a ball ache to take gas there if not needed, cheers

I've done it with gas in the past. I only use propane/oxygen, so it was not as tidy a result that you could get with acetylene.

Mag drill will drill it fine not that I am condoning modifying a piece of lifting equipment

Have done it with oxy/acet in the past, but not bothered with the teleporter tine

I tried it with a mag drill . It might have got 1/4 way through before the cutter was knackered .
I'd try gas..

For best results make sure you use some sort of cutting compound/friction reducer/lubricant & don't force it too much

Get a bit of box section to fit over the tine, chain round back of tine, do what you like with the end of the box.

Did it with the pillar drill with the loadall still attached no problem.

An old tine (not used for lifting any more) with a decent peg welded on is very useful for moving kit about in the yard, more so than one with a hole we found.

I’ve a hole drilled in mine that I can fit a ball hitch a peg or even a home made clevis too. Like you said it unbelievable handy fir moving stuff around. Particular useful for pushing equipment into the back of a shed where it’s tight fir space.

Bare in mind it will fail a loler test if you put hole in it.

Mag drill will be fine, just keep the bit cool, did mine a week or so back without bother.

If it’s anything like Gas Safe, it’s better not to have the ticket. Cock upand you get a suspended sentence, qualified and you’ll do time

cause it shouldnt be there but if you want to argue it with your loler inspector then please do so, i was just warning the op it would be a failure.

If the point or heel is worn it shouldn’t pass a thorough inspection thought
