Hi all we currently have a manitou mt1840 in. Telescope boom won't go out, if I swap plugs on solenoids it goes out and won't come in BUT when the plugs are put right it still doesn't come in. Also when the boom out switch is worked the joystick disable light comes on.
Stripped joystick all usual joystick wires and roller switches are good, would a faulty retract solenoid cause it not to go out?
And pointers very much appreciated!

I bought the manitou from auction and I have a leak in the telescope inside , from Monday I plan to see from where it leaks. Do you have any idea how to change the hose inside without disassembling the booms ?
Machine starts , the boom goes up and down , the telescope doesn’t retract full inside but it gives signal to solenoids .first I will try to fix the leaking problem

Hi Martin I'm not fully sure but fairly positive that you have to take at least 1 boom section out to do the pipes, if you can get boom right back in you can pull put the first telescope ram from the backend

2008 /9 MT1840 had massive problems with Boom Sequencing - usually resulting in ripping all the internals out and shoving them out the back! early 17 mtr Bobcats suffered the same.
You need help from a Manitou Construction Dealer who experienced the problems at the time - The boom was totally redisgned because of the problems and the new boom then had a "chain system" like Merlo Use and JCB on their 540-180 model - the trade would never buy a used MT1840 with the old boom system - the chain system is very easy to spot as it can be seen as it comes over the external boom ram roller - those in know put old spec 1840 machines into Euro Auctions and other auctions to get rid to unsuspecting new owners. Suggest you do the same - the cost of repair in the late 2000's was around 12k - you can double that now - you need a box of Swan Vestas to sort it out - some early 1840 had the boom replaced with the new style boom but it cost Manitou a fortune in warranty and customers vowing never to buy Manitou again it was that serious. Like all Chain Booms they need to be kept in adjustment as per manufactures instructions - the MT1435 and 1440 that were launched at the same time were trouble free.
