Having trouble with forward clutch pack on our 4370, replacing the clutch pack for the second time in a few hundred hours. Trying to find the reason this has started happening, has anyone had experience of this? And found a solution? I know of another close by which suddenly started burning out clutch packs but they just put in a mechanical 12/12 box and never actually found out why this started happening.

What about the oil pump that supplies true oils to cool it. Isn’t it located at the rear of the gearbox and of the 1-4is in neutral then the pump doesn’t work

Yes it’s had the filter modification. I know about using the shuttle where possible but I believe that there is something external to the gearbox causing the issue, I’ve just not found it yet. The previous gearbox high/low clutch pack went and when we opened up the gearbox we found odd bolts, ie not ones Massey ferguson fitted ones holding on the front cover which were the wrong size and had burst bits of the casting so decided to swap out the whole box for a reconditioned unit done by ex MF gearbox engineers as we didn’t know what had previously been done to the gearbox. This reconditioned box has now had the forward clutch pack replaced twice. Both times it has failed has been after a short period of time with foot on brake and clutch at the same time, once waiting at a junction and once meeting a car on a single track road, both times with very little load on the tractor, ifor Williams full of sheep and a silage bale on the back. I use this tractor for hauling a 7t digger around and 14t dump trailer, I’d have understood if the clutch failed doing one of these tasks.

I feel your pain, always difficult when someone else has been inside and who knows what they have done? All i can suggest is get the clutch packs rebuilt with all new seals and o-rings. if you can find a way to put pressure into the system and test for leaks. if not put it all together and before driving off anywhere spend some time checking oil pressures and see if there are any pressures dropping off.
