rule of 9?

sorry, rotate engine intill one valve is fully open (right down) subtract it’s number from 9 and adjust that valve number. So, if valve no3 is open 9-3 = 6 therefore adjust no 6. Mark it with chalk and rotate engine to get next one to go down.
They do have a mark on pulkey and pointer on front cover so you can find TDC easiky if you wanted to do them using firing order aswell.

BTW, I was very surprised to find head bolts all needed 1-2 turns after just say, 6-8 engine hours after new rebuild. Previously, I torque to 75 pounds, but this time I torqued to 80 pounds (user manual states 75-80). At this point I set tappets to 20 thou. I will check head bolts again in a dozen hours. Tractor starts first turn of the key after a few seconds of heat, sounds good too, with even idling.

I wouldn’t tighten the head bolts too much, personally feel that 75-80 stretches them quite a bit as it is. It just feels a little bit too much for me ebery time I do one!!!
