The tank is held up by the two straps shown in the diagram. Support the tank and then undo them, you will also need to disconnect the rubber hose from the filler neck and the two small pipes at the front of the tank.

If your tractor has an auxiliary pump you will have to remove the tank as there are two steel pipes in the way of the sender. You should find you only need to lower it rather than take it right out. If you do not have the extra pump then with the straps slackened but not removed it is just possible to manoeuvre the sender in and out without taking the tank off.

I had three 550's at one stage and seemed to be forever replacing senders.

Looking to take the tank out of a 550 to give it a clean out. The way I'm seeing the manual, the feed pipe is welded in place so there is no way of removing it to clean the pencil filter... or does it not have one?
Thoughts please?

There is no pencil filter. Rubber feed and return pipes just jubilee clipped on hose tail fitted to tank.

'Scenario'? I can't see one in the parts list...;)
Scenario is any part in the parts list that stops the lift pump from sucking fuel out of the tank. Pick whichever from the list you like its bound to be something else. Filter, fuel pipe, olive on pump, lift pump rubber, sh!t in tank, water in tank, sods law.theres a y in the day of the week.

I got so fed up with the 550 fuel tank and lift pump scenario I inatalled a gravity feed tank just above the bonnet. Best thing I ever did to the 550 apart from selling the pile of junk.
I done something similar years ago when we had a 550 on the scraper, absolutely hated the thing we sold a 148 and bought the 550 what a mistake how massey created something so bad considering it was based on a 148 which was great is unbelivable

Drained and flushed a whole 45 years of crappola out - I'm sort of suprised it ran at all. I suspect I haven't got it all yet so next time it gets low I'll do it again.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
