Michael Eavis planning for new shed for dairy expansion turned down after 20 objections

The way you post it sounds like you are an expert on planning.

Please then explain the whys and wherefores of how the planning permission system works with regards to all the houses that are bein g built / proposed to be built in the SW (and on good soil) bearing in mind all the extra occupants will need infrastucture ie somewhere to work ????????
A Key word there is work
Ie. production/ industry /local / viability /community ....(y)

Simple. Economic viability, soil type and employment opportunities are not part of the planning approval criteria. Does it fit the Local and Regional Plan are the main criteria, followed a long way behind by visual impact, unless in an AONB. Any major developments usually involve the developer improving the (very) local roads.

I was, at one time involved in opposing the development of the largest (at the time) open cast mine in Europe. The economic viability and the employment opportunities were not allowed to be considered at the Planning Inquiry. Permission was granted, nothing happened for 25 years as it wasn't viable due to the fall in mineral prices, then when it finally opened, the whole operation went into Administration within a couple of years, leaving the whole area (on the edge of a National Park) scarred. Planning has nothing to do with common sense.

If we need to put up a farm structure here in Colorado its advised to get a building permit from the county ($50-00) this is a mere formality, non of the hassle you guys' have to endure getting "permission" to build on your own land..

Michael Eavis has said in the past he only pays himself £60k a year and after the festival costs are paid for, everything goes to charity.

Crikey, he's virtually on the breadline! Company vehicle, house, council tax, rates, power and fuel all on the business and only a grand a week spending money!

But this is a typical farmer attitude-complain about low profits but happy to forget that they have most living expenses covered by the business.

I live in the village of Pilton so I thought I would give you some facts.
1. Dick Skidmore is a retired farmer who has worked hard for the village over the years.
2. The cow barn was turned down at planning because there have been numerous 'cow barns' built on the Glastonbury Festival site that turn into Glastonbury Festival buildings - the Pyramid Stage is a prime example. Eavis has for a number of years quarried stone illegally (he now has permission) and some of the barns are used for cutting and storing. He infills land with waste from the festival.
3. This barn was planned for the Festival Village Car Park site and locals were(are) very worried that this is really a car park - it's three storeys high.
4. This was passed at Parish Council level because; the village didn't know about it as it wasn't posted on the agenda for the required amount of time. The chairman of the Parish Council is Eavis's son and members of the council are bullied by him.
5. Before you all start saying that he does wonderful things for the village like building affordable housing, bear in mind that he gets paid for the stone, has a percentage of the rent, and the houses will in future years revert back to his estate.
6. Loved the comment about hiding in the corner minding his own business - I've never seen that and I have known him all my life!
7. As for the festival - before anyone goes on about locals being given a free ticket - yes we do but it is compensation and it's not enough. As I sit here the traffic is building up and some residents can't park outside of their houses because the road is a clearway for emergency vehicles. We don't mind that as much as being on lock down - we're given special passes to get into our own village. If we don't have it the guards won't let us in. This is besides having people steal, run through our gardens, go to the toilet in our gardens - and then the noise - all night!!! Some of us have to work and we can go to work on Monday after a sleepless five nights but then we can't get home as the traffic is coming out in two lanes and we literally can't get back in - we have to take holiday. The local schools plan their inset days for the festival as the kids can't get there. A local resident who was very ill was discharged from hospital because they need the beds for the festival goers - he died.
During the last festival there wasn't enough chippings to lay in the mud so they ground up old caravans - asbestos and all and laid it on the land. Eavis also got so incensed one year when a neighbour had an 'alternative'party for friends that couldn't get tickets to the festival that he emptied human slurry on his fields. Don't tell me it's only for three days a year because we have months of human slurry dumped on the fields as he's too mean to pay for it to be taken away. Complete with tampons and durex. By the way the cows NEVER go out unless it's to have their photo taken.
8. They don't GIVE anything to charities. The charities have to provide volunteers who work for the money and give Eavis a tax break.
Anybody want me to go on some more?!

Sooo not his biggest fan then?
Interesting to hear the other side though.
If it’s that bad I think I’d move, which raises the question, what affect does the festival have on local house prices?

No, and neither are a lot of people in the area. It was quite funny at Easter. He belongs to the Methodist Chapel and he had invited a preacher who he says is the Methodist equivalent of the Pope. He went down to the vicar's house and told her that she had to cancel the Easter Sunday service because of this preacher visiting. Think in the Church of England religion they take Easter seriously too - needless to say she sent him packing.

The pyramid stage is a cow barn? That sounds a bit strange to say the least

I'd like you to go on some more. Could you clarify what you mean in point seven as it sounds like you are suggesting that he purposefully, and vindictively applied human waste to his fields. And in point two, that he infills land with festival waste. I'd be interested to know more about these please.

It's supposed to be - he got permission to build the cow barn in the shape of the pyramid (to be used as a stage) but it's not used as a cow barn. You will see pictures of the cows in the fields but they are taken straight back in. I am local as is my wife so moving is out of the question. House prices are good - not as high as fashionable Bruton but it's a lovely village and has always been desirable.

I expect he has a licensed tip on his land?

I wonder if a dispensation for spreading human poo?

I can understand locals for getting fed up with the festival even though its a cultural icon and its brilliant. Cant help but chuckle at the hippocrasy of the supposed "eco" nature of it this year mind!

He was (at the time) friendly with the farmer who had the party. The year after the farmer had the party, he asked if he could rent a field - it's adjacent to the festival site. The farmer rented him the field and Eavis sent the slurry lorries down and they emptied it on the field until it was thick. Eavis regularly spreads human slurry on village fields. As for festival infill - they promised to pack up any tents left behind to send to countries that need them. The workers go around slashing any decent tent to make them unusable. They then scoop them up and use them as landfill.
