Missed a calf on bcms

As title suggests a birth was missed on bcms last week, and we have had five more born since then - all been tagged. Is there a way to register the calf born last week rather than today, essentially giving it the correct ear tag number and moving the other 5 calves down one?

You have 28 days ?? To register the birth of a calf and they don’t have to be in number order

Best bet is to phone bcms and explain the situation. They are very helpful. I had an issue with miss read tags of a dam and did not notice for a month when the cow actually calved and they got it sorted no issue also shows you are watching for your own mistakes I think and honest enough to admit to it so in theory should reduce the risk of inspection and if you do get an inspection you have fixed it before they find it so can't peanilize you imho.

As said before you have 28 days to register from when it was born so just register it now with the next available number, if said calf is already tagged then that number should still be available on bcms

Do you mean you have inadvertently registered the next 5 against the tag number 1 less than they're actually tagged with? If so, then I think you'll have to phone and confess as suggested by @Dachie.

Given how quickly you've spotted the mistake I'd be surprised if there's any penalty. Although, being a government department, they may charge you for the replacement passports.

Yes, so this is the problem. It just means if bcms won’t change it I’ll have to get some more tags ordered and cut out the old tags and re-tag the calves. Not the end of the the world just a pain in the arse

Whatever you do, don't tell the truth and admit making a genuine mistake.
Just reshuffle the calves to match the passports.
Only buy replacement tags in singles.
As long as you know which calf goes with which cow.
Just my opinion.
Good job missus N does our tags. She doesn't make mistakes. ;)
Common sense ......... 😊😊

We had a passport which the OH had put wrong sex on and all we had to do was send it back to have sex changed . It didn't come to light till we were weaning them .
10 days later new passport arrived with correct sex on it

We had one with no passport , found out at 11 months when TB test came up with 1 animal more than ear tags , just told BCMS truth and got DNA done on dam and they sent passport.

Get it sorted immediately else you will stress about it and it will niggle away at you.

Phone them up to let them know which tag numbers are affected, explain in full if you need to but say you will be writing to them when you return the passports. Then return the incorrect passports along with a covering letter detailing all the correct info including which one was missed (with its info) and how this has resulted in the others being wrong. Write correct info on each passport that has to go back.

It happens and there should not be any penalty on you, you are obviously busy calving and it is easy to make a mistake.

Difference between wisdom and knowledge...knowledge is that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is that you don't put it in a fruit salad''

Some of those tiny button tomatoes taste quite sweet and can even be confused with a grape. So they could quite easily be used in a fruit salad. 👯‍♂️

I wonder what the carbon footprint is of all the paperwork and postage involved in correcting the wrong sex on passports.

Why is it important. And if the sex is wrong, why can't we just correct it ourselves?
