mobile/site welding

Just out of interest any ideas on going hourly rate for a mobile welder to come on farm? I do my own welding so never given it a thought, but other day i popped up the rd and welded some gate hangings on for a mate. I just did that as a favour and a pint in pub one night but it just got me thinking what people would be charging.

£35-£45/hr

Pretty much on the money there, would nudge towards the £50+/hr, skill and qualification level dependant though. Will depend on the individual welder, his/ her understanding of their job and skill level. Believe me there are welders and those that think they can weld!

A fabricator/ welder who is mustard at his job at £55/hr may well be much better value than the one charging £30 if that makes sense.

Been caught out big time working on a reciprocal "for favours" basis in the past (with one notable exception) so now, if asked I just give people a rate and they can make up their own mind then.

"A loaf of bread in the stomach is soon forgotten" springs to mind.

It was more a case of i refused to take any payment he'd got everything ready i just welded round 2 hangings, it wasnt a 100yards away and come a few weeks time when he starts lambing i'll be dragged in there every few days by my 3yr old wanting to see the lambs which he doesnt have a problem with.

That is definitely a favour type job.

Normal rates don't apply, I wouldn't have charged for that either.

Don't forget insurance for site welding. It is expensive and there are serious conditions attached. It got to the stage where I couldn't be bothered to insure for the small amount of welding I did, so I agave it up. The other thing of course was working at height. Heat and height, two things insurers love to charge for!

Hi all, Is there anyone on the island that does vehicle repair welding for MOTs? I guess I could ask the test center if they have any recommendations but thought I'd try here first. Since the vehicle that requires a minor chassis repair is not currently roadworthy, I need someone who comes along and does the work on the customer's driveway. Loads of such people in the UK but can't find any advertising their services here for some reason. Any ideas?

when was welding invented

That's a great point. The skill level and experience can have a big impact on a welder's value and hourly rate. It's important for clients to consider the welder's qualifications, experience, and reputation before hiring them.
As you said, "a loaf of bread in the stomach is soon forgotten." It's better to establish a fair rate and get the job done right the first time, rather than risk disappointment and frustration down the line.

Good “coded” welders will already have a PAYE job at £20 - £25 per hour in an equipment supplied fabrication workshop.
Needs to be at least double or even treble including travelling for a mobile “coded” welder bringing his own equipment and consumables…
No such thing as a coded welder there’s that many different codes and procedures that there is no way you can do them all

i bought a machine of a guy last year who was a welder for a oil refinery in pembrokshire, he had 46 diffrent codes
But could he repair a pig farrowing crate with a stick welder on a long extension lead with damp 1970's welding rods outside in the wind and rain using an old wheelbarrow out of the nettles for donor material?
