Mocha wagtail slurry spreader

Had a chat today with castleagri and ordered one . He said some interesting things about it which I hadn't thought of , he said of course it will not have as low N loss as a dribble bar/shoe but it will be a lot better than a splash plate , however in terms of the enviroment he reckons that if you add in the diesel to the emission equation it comes out better than dribble bars/ trailing shoe. It's much faster emptying than a dribble bar and as it spreads wider you don't need to travel as many times up the field combined with much lower power requirement with no macerator/lower weight especially if on steep land like myself ,means far less diesel used which when added to the slurry emissions means it comes out more environmentally friendly .
Also he claims even though you will lose a bit more N than a dribble bar you will still grow more grass because the big droplets are spread over all the ground and not just concentrated in thick lines . Whether this proves to be true or not I know not but something that always did worry me about dribble bars was being an organic farm would I start to see an increase in docks due to the heavy concentration of slurry in lines . The main attraction for me was that I would still be able to keep my rear filler arm , if I fitted a dribble bar I would of have to go back to getting out and hooking up a dirty pipe all day !

What makes it trip from side to side and what are the wearing parts on it?

You can buy a complete refurb kit for 40 euros I'm told , needs new spring and rubber bits about every 5m gallons , and further on again there is some brass collar or something which is included in the kit

Keep us up dated then as i might be interested in one
Do they simply bolt on in place of your splash plate or is there brackets etc to be welded on?
Think I may have to grind off the support for the splash plate and the new one just clamps on .He said don't worry about cutting the splash plate support because you're not ever going to want to see a splash plate again !

Got it fitted and gave it a go although ground far too wet !
The spread if perfectly even and I would say about 14 meters wide . I have had to reduce spread width by two holes though due to slurry hitting the filler arm .
It certainly keeps the slurry in much bigger droplets and it's far harder to see where you have been which must be a good thing .
Down side is it really does not like wind behind you where as the old splash plate would happily spread down wind .Not a problem on a flat farm but on my hills you don't get an option which direction you spread . Anyway early days yet as by load three I found a proper wet spot , went zooming of down the hill at 800mph and took the option to go through a fence rather than crash into a wood ! So have only just got in from fencing ! This weather is doing my head in , my new tractor has now had it's first christening with a slightly out of line mudgaurd but at least that's all
