If road ain’t too wide it’s possible to push a scaffold tube under the road with a digger.obviously depends on soil but it’s very possible.don’t involve the council though

To be honest if it's a quiet road a couple of times we have had an angle grinder & cut two slots 3inches apart across the road then put a "tree down road closed" sign each end & quick as you can hand dig with a pick across the road, lay the pipe & back fill & remove signs, then a couple of days later when the back fill has settled replace the tarmac strip, so far never ever had a query from anyone.I have been quoted to mole under a small B road and run about 340m of 32mm mdpe through a field.
The cost seems extortionate it has come at over £14k.
Anyone else have any experience with what the costs are for this work or had any quotes for something similar
This is in the Devon area.
Seen (or rather heard) of a farmer in S Shropshire do that. Narrow 3m lane. Long thin hole at 90 degrees to road for driving end, then a parallel trench for reception end. 2" pole, then 25mm waterpipe through the pole. I'd make sure there was a stop tap nearby...I know a man that dug a hole each side and knocked a scaffold tube through with a point welded on the end then cut the end to length
They also know what they are saving you so may charge accordinglySomone once told me those road molers love their cash and love night work
Chap high in up the village did the same, Sunday morning got his mates from the pub, dug across put the pipe, battered it and filled it with that cold tarmac stuff, first though he'd put 'silage making in operation' signs at either end of the lane, this was usual when they were making silage so most all the locals and the horse riders used to avoid the lane anyway. To be honest if it's a quiet road a couple of times we have had an angle grinder & cut two slots 3inches apart across the road then put a "tree down road closed" sign each end & quick as you can hand dig with a pick across the road, lay the pipe & back fill & remove signs, then a couple of days later when the back fill has settled replace the tarmac strip, so far never ever had a query from anyone.
Grand when it’s sand or silty soil…..use digger bucket to push it throughI know a man that dug a hole each side and knocked a scaffold tube through with a point welded on the end then cut the end to length
