Mower hire for vineyard

Hi we planted a small vineyard but can't afford a top notch mower to keep on top of mowing between the rows....we hoped to hire so we could save up and try before we buy but our local hire companies (Hastings) dont have anything suitable....can anyone recommend where i could hire a mower that would tackle long grass? Like a torro timemaster/turfmaster or similar?
Thanks 😊

What sort of area are we talking and realistically what budget do you have.
And of the Kawasaki powered commercial zero turn machines will do the job.
Ferris scag Great Dane Ransomes toro wright etc.
They are all basically the same machine with slightly different controls
Don’t worry about buying used. The quality of them is unbelievable. They don’t wear out

How big is the vineyard, and how wide are the rows? You’ll want something to mulch prunings at some point presumably, so it would be worth making sure any mower you buy now will handle that?

Kilworth machinery hired me a 1m wide reverse drive tractor and flail mower to do field headlands several years ago now. It worked so well I bought a similar mower from them to run behind my my135.

Perhaps if you gave a location one of us could recommend a local company to hire a Rough Cut Mower which is probably what you need now
locally here Thurston building supplies have them for £50 / day you will cut a lot in a day!
That sounds the perfect thing! We are in Westfield near Hastings East Sussex...ill look and see if we have a thurston building supplies...if not i could google "rough cut mower hire" and something local might come up

It is an acre, id have to measure between the rows, i think its standard width for vineyards. Id quite like to hire a couple of different models to check i like them before buying. Im not great with machinery...my husband planted the vineyard before his illness so im really just doing the basics that are achievable for one person, not hoping to sell any grapes at this stage as will need a lot of input to get the vines how they should be. Thanks for the recommendations, ill look out for those!

Do you have a quad bike/gator thing/pickup that can drive up the rows
A ATV flail would do the job perfectly

I have a narrow tractor, complete with flail mower I could contract with.

It's a bit of a run, I'm on Romney marsh,but not impossible.
How often would you be looking to mow?
It depends on the width available between the plants really.

Thanks for your offer! I can measure next time i go....are you suggesting we could hire it from you, or would you be using it?

I'd drive it, for safety.
And of course it would take longer to bring it out and drop off, then collect again in a few days than to actually do the job

You won’t find Thurston Building supplies near you unfortunately . Depending on your build and strength a pedestrian rough cut mower may be a little much for you.
give Hastings hire centre a ring they may well have something suitable or hopefully guide you to some one who has.
if you can find one Stiga do a flail head for their mowers , I think Husquvarna do to, which would be ideal for the job but you are probably looking at £5,000 for one new

Unfortunately none of the local hire companies have anything...im considering buying a toro timemaster, as its just within mu budget and i cant afford a rideon. I'm fairly strong, i should manage, but had hoped to try one before taking the plunge on such a costly machine...but the reviews ive seen all look good

Can you post a link to the toro you’re looking at?
Are looking at new?
I’d worry a timecutter is a bit light duty

There are several model numbers but cant seem to find out what the difference is if any. There are a lot of YouTube videos of these making easy work of very long grass

That’s just a lawnmower with twin blades. Is not a commercial machine and I think in time you’d regret it.
Something like these scags would be 10x the machine. Dead simple to use and will literally mow anything you can drive over
