Pesticide tax was never reality - if a government wanted to tax they would regardless - tax is about raising revenue not changing behaviour. Tax was the stick the NFU used to justify the need for all this at the time - we were sold a pup laden with agenda imo and not a thing can be done about it now

The way it’s going a tax might have been a cheaper lower hassle option anyway !
I know.;)

What a crock of sh!t. I only want to spray a few acres of docks every few years and some roundup on headlands before ploughing to re-seed. It truly isn't rocket science. Any idiot can buy the stuff I use in Tesco's albeit diluted.
Nroso doesn't cost a great deal but yes it is just one more drip of a constantly running tap.
They do annual "seminars" which get you a load of points and I expect you would actually enjoy them. Other than that your activities would likely gain you enough anyway, going to ag shows, talking to advisors, chopsing on here etc. So not a difficult one to comply with.
Alternatively just tell your Red Tractor guy that you don't do much spraying and get contractors in for what bit you do.

I reckon assurance cost me near 5k last year, GTAS and RT membership fees, and testing of machines, subscriptions to grain testing network, weighbridge calibrations, MOt's, training, staff to shows, NORSO memberships and a day being assessed

this is before I factor any admin time in

Exactly but the nroso part of it need come to no more than £30.
I am not trying to defend these things as it pee's me off enormously just how many live off our backs with little benefit to us, just saying this particular bit is easy enough.

Do points mean prizes?
I did my sprayer tests about a year ago and although NRoSO was mentioned, I don't recall it being compulsory to either join NRoSO or gain self improvement points. Perhaps someone could enlighten the ignorant as to why the urgency to gain points?

I’ve lost my nroso twice before because I was short of the 30 points required, it’s not easy to achieve them when your over 150miles from any open days...

the annoying thing about not getting the points is your chucked off it for 12 months before you can re apply and that means your not covered for Farm Assurance, which therefore means someone else if you have anyone else working has to be nroso registered just for farm assurance and to do the spraying, non-nroso operators arnt allowed to spray a farm assured crop :banghead:

How does the Tff points thing work please, I need some points and have filled the form in the above link., are they then allocated automatically by Nroso or what.
Can points be allocated for preceding years?

see below and follow the link, the detail gets passed to NROSO who do the allocation yes, only available for your current year and you can only apply once per year. You must be an "active" TFF member - ie 5 posts or more per year

I've done the exam and am qualified to use a self propelled sprayer, although I don't want to and never will do. The sprayer has new nozzles and is calibrated and tested. I strongly object to giving jobs to the boys for what I do, which is what I've done since I was 14 years of age, which was back in the late 1960's starting with a Vigzol sprayer with a copper-looking internal tank with brass nozzles.
They can stuff their Noroso where the sun don't shine!
Another five years or less and I'll let the weeds run riot anyway and let the land revert to as it was in the 19th Century, producing next to no food for the nation's ungrateful degenerates. Just wish everyone would do the same. Let the barstewards eat cake!

Then don't bother paying your farm assurance subscription. Then you don't need to be a member of NRoSO though you'll still need your sprayer tested occasionally under the recent law changes.
