New Holland 376 Baler.

Out the blue, been offered £600 for my NH 376 conventional. It's been stored in dry under cover, not used for easily 10 yrs if not a few more. From an age when we baled our own before switching to the local contractor. The normal story. Was put away working etc. He is a friend who I did sell the flat 8 sledge to this season and expressed an interest in it then.....but I resisted because a look up at the time saw similar balers asking good 1k plus and the rest. Thing is being advertised for x amount is one thing but we’re they selling? I find I’m asking myself.

Honestly, this is not a sly advert to put it for sale here and I'm not going to get too sentimental about the Baler but I'm swaying towards the fact he is a friend who likes to tinker and fairly certain it’s for his own use (he‘s got a small 5 acre and likes to make his own hay) and if it gets another life, local.... warm feeling and all that. So, people's thoughts on £600 he’s offered. Fair, realistic price to let it go at that? Or fool to let it go at that, niche market, small bales still in demand etc......I'm certainly never going to bale with it again.

Balers put away working don't always work next season let alone 10 years later tyres have probably gone flat on the bottom and need replacing
you know what you have could be worth more but there's no hassle trying to sell or cost to you
might we also be talking cash;)

It probably is too cheap if it could run through some material and prove working order. Probably make more money in March /April.
Slight tangent but how much is a new conventional baler these days.

Considering quite a lot of spares for it are obsolete, take the money.

It's up to you if your happy with that amount..but personally I think it's worth a lot more especially if it's in good condition, I've seen good working straight looking ones go for just under 3k..

If it runs it worth £1500 in may/June when somebody wants one. If it’s good one it’s worth a little bit more to the right man.

It’s worth a grand in December. Some are asking £3k but they aren’t worth it in all honesty as you can buy a lot more modern Baler for not much more.

id not let it leave for any less than 1500.00 really the 376 were a good baler in their day and people do say the parts are obsolete but that may be true from your local NH agent, but not from the people who have piles of these balers they break. if it runs and its tidy id sit on it till May June when the hay hobbyists come out to play they will spend upto 2k on this, if hes that keen tell him 1500.00 no returns if he bales the needles because its out of time on the first bale your not responsible :)

Yes I’m probably inclined to sit on it as per your suggestion then a proper effort to shift it next season or suggest he’s perhaps got to part with a bit more and yes always sold as seen. If I was buying I’d been turning it over by hand as I prepped it for work to make sure it’s in time. Timing marks somewhere but it’s been a while since I’ve put proper eyes on it😆

If you do run it up after such a long time make sure the ram rollers are free and the little rollers on the knotters as well.

Send the man a cheque then if you think it’s worth that
FRIEND word comes up , depends how friendly they both are , but 600 to a grand . And a good friendship worth more than 3000 , may want a favour one day .

I was given a 267 that had been in a shed for 15 years. I checked it over. There was very little needed any attention and I happily used it for 6 years without much hassle at all. It was just a bit slow, compared to more modern balers.

Before I moved here, we had a 387 and it was a fantastic baler. IIRC it was the same as a 376 but with the 2” taller bale chamber.

Even if parts aren’t available from NH (which they generally are unless the baler was built in France such as the 540 and 545), they can easily be got from Woodfield’s at Bluntisham, near Huntingdon at very reasonable costs. As can the NH parts that are available, but at a much cheaper price.

If you go right through the operator’s manual and set them up properly, NH’s are fantastic balers.
