New Land Rover Defender?

You must have some peculiar body shape that suits sitting on the floor with hardly any vehicle suspension. Or perhaps you only drive on nice smooth roads rather than rough farm tracks? Its only quite lately that the HiLux has become somewhat more civilised.
The LR may be short of room and not the safest vehicle in the world, but at least it has a suspension worth calling a suspension. Its not for someone waiting for a hip or knee replacement operation though, I'll give you that.

Yes, the old Defender body is thirty years behind the times. Yes pickup suspension and 4wd design is mostly also thirty years behind the times. However, pickups sell in their millions worldwide while LR only managed to sell about 14,000 Defenders worldwide annually in the last decade until the hype about the end of production kicked in.

They are all tools for a job. The new one will be a toy for big boy's playpens.

I've had defenders and jap pick ups, currently on a hilux , as a general purpose work vehicle jap trucks will take some beating , but in my opinion there are three things in which they fail miserably compared to the defender,
Lack of low range 2wd for shunting heavy trailers on tarmac ( jap pick ups lock up too much in low range 4wd for this kind of job and end up scuffing tyres, and make hard work of it )
Lack of permanent 4wd, as soon as you pull off the road onto a bit of soft ground they start spinning which drives me nuts,
And there front suspension set up is just not strong enough if you're doing serious off roading such as driving over rough moor and hill ground feeding stock etc

A man after my own heart. I have long made the same observations apart from the front suspension bit.

Listen ...... a 20 yr old hilux is far more comfortable than any LR 90/110 ever!

At 6'3 I can do 1100 miles in a weekend without ending up crippled. Still a bit noisy though

To dislike them is your prerogative. We can't all afford to swan around in £30k plastic palace pickup trucks.

Currently paying £3360/year + vat for a Amarok lease and £3624/year + vat for a NP300. Warranty included. Service costs fixed as well for the duration of the lease.

Doesn’t pay to own it at those figures!

That looks crap to me. Couldn’t pay me enough to drive one.
:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: You're right it is crap!

But then again I read your later post about how much you pay to own an amarok (or is that just to lease it) per year... And then I thought of the £750 I payed for the galvanised chassied c reg with axels. (coincidentally) the £750 for the aluminium to make the body on the back, probably another £750 for my labour and a share of the depreciation on the tools used to make it, the £50 of fuel to go pick up the free landy with a good 200 tdi and gearbox.. A poly bush set and the usual bits and pieces... And then I cast my mind back to all the trips down south and all the running about, (without too many problems) over the last 7 years... Many thousands of miles... All for less than you spent on one year:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

And how I could probably get £4000 for it now:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
