New meat processing plant (raw pet food)

Between Oct 17th when we started by dismantling and collecting a massive cold store from Nottingham and Feb 17th when we finally finished everything the APHA needed for our approval, myself, my step-dad and a builder friend (bought in late on to help the final push) put this meat processing plant together for making raw pet food.

How it started:

Loading bay (the chiller van fits inside)

Past the loading bay is the main cutting room, 24m2 freezer and 12m2 chiller, all self installed and wired apart from the connecting copper work and the gassing up

Reverse views at far end of cutting room

We have our APHA approval now and will start production next week

High welfare as much as we can. As for species, all the usuals ? our products are nutritionally complete and mostly single or 2 proteins at most.

I tell you, the regulations are mental. Somewhere between a butcher and abbatoir because of ABP cat 3 material (and its even better that pet food is automatically cat 3 even if you just bought prime steaks from a butcher and resold it for pets)

For now we'll still be doing human meat, although we're not allowed to do it at these premises unfortunately.

Where do you get the humans

There's always loads holding placards outside abattoirs, just waiting to go down the line!

Good luck with this. Are you offering casualty slaughter on farms? I’m thinking animals unfit to travel due to lameness etc

Unfortunately not, we looked into it as my other half is a vet so could, but they become category 2 ABP, so we'll be collecting cull animals but everything has to be well enough to travel

I don't want this to be a shameless plug, but we started production yesterday, this was the first run, much enjoyed by our dogs that evening.
