Just received the email, with summery of the main changes...

Key changes in your sector

Combinable Crops & Sugar Beet

  • REMOVED A requirement to leave livestock buildings for five weeks between cleaning them and using them to store grain.
  • SIMPLIFIED Grain trailer ID needs to be clearly identifiable and on at least the rear and one side of the trailer, rather than all three sides as currently required. Trailer ID is only necessary when transporting your grain into a third-party intake.
  • NEW All farms with workers must have a written Health and Safety policy – this is a slight advance on the legal baseline which only applies to businesses with more than five employees. Given high fatality figures in the industry Red Tractor believes it is essential to check policies are in place and communicated to workers.
  • REVISED Many of the requirements of vermin control standards align with the Campaign for Responsible Rodenticide Use (CRRU) Code of Practice which aims to minimise the exposure of wildlife to toxic rodenticides. This means that Red Tractor members can continue to buy rodenticide that they would otherwise be prohibited from purchasing without completing additional training.
  • CLARIFIED Moisture meter calibration can be carried out on farm using reference samples

I find that such a strange one as they are putting themselves above the health and safety at work act.

Now.. if it helps to keep farm workers safer then fair enough. But I have a feeling that most will be getting a call from 'NFU Risk Management Services' wishing to sell them their H&S packs.

Obviously another nail in the coffin for employing anyone.

How do? Can’t see anything there that changes with having employees. If anything, it removes a small transition at 5+ staff and so makes it less of a jump up from 4. Unless the “all farms with workers” means first non-owner employee, which would be a very strange way to word things.

Gold plating again.

Bits of paper do not make good safety practice.

It's a state of mind that the employer needs to have, who can then teach that mindset to their employees. Such as not putting your body in a pinch point between hard surfaces and machinery. Can't get safely into a space ? then use a long peace of wood or change the circumstances.

Would be far better if RT took action by sending out leaflets on each of the main causes of work related farm accidents and gave farmers information on how to do certain jobs more safely. But THAT would make THEM accountable wouldn't it ?

And they have forgotten to mention Mass Balance Calculations
Not their fault tbh (REDII), but you're correct - no mention of it.

At least it looks like all the fuss made by farmers might have just done some good on this occasion.

Maybe they think binning most of the proposed standards will put us off the scent of the 'equal to imports' issue :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Being fair to NFU, they (NFU) did kick back at a lot of the proposals.

engage sarcasm mode Oh how cynical I can’t believe you’d think rt and then nfu would even think of such a scam
