Promises of premiums that have become threats of penalties, horsegate, mislabelling, country of origin fraud, its time for the NFU to kill off RT, the threat of greater government inspections is a hollow, empty one, how the hell will they be funded? Now is the ideal time to admit what a huge mistake assurance has been for the industry. If supermarkets and processors want independent auditing then let them pay for it and stop passing liability down the chain.

all of the above and much more

number 1 important theses days is being VERY media savy - just look at our last few PM's Blair was shite but christ did he understand how to play the media game

perception matters more than reality these days, i'm not saying that's a good thing but it is the world we live in

So in your view, in citing Blair as a good example, and thinking perception Is more important than reality, we need someone who can deliver a decent sound byte above all else...

If ever there was a case for not having one member one vote it’s this!

You miss my point completely

Blair etc are very media friendly and that’s an important quality for any leader in the public eye these days - it matters not what a twit he was or how terrible is policies were, for the record I can’t abide the man but equally can’t deny his success in Gerri g the Labour Party into power

It’s a skill that any NFU leader to date has been woefully lacking in yet a skill that those that these days are better at getting the ear of decisions makers excel in hense why our industry is lacking the representation it deserves

It’s not what you say these days it’s how you say it that matters

Good to see a proper voting system as when I tried to vote for Guy Smith on the FWI site the other day it said the vote couldn't be accepted as he wasn't a candidate! :scratchhead:

@Guy Smith, good luck next week(y)

live long enough you see it all:D:D:D

lol - she's not in my phone numbers. Will do when I meet her.

misread this at first '...will do'er...':D:D

I sincerely hope you get the post on the top team that you really want next week Guy(y)

thats it i'm now convinced the real guth has been abducted by aliens:eek::D

now....more seriously

I will vote for whoever actually has the balls to recognize that the RT assurance is a scam.......... that leaves one candidate out, as one of them hasn't got a pair and is on the RT board peddling this constant 'Farm to Fork' traceability lie !

Good luck to the other candidate ........

Guy has achieved a lot in the last 2 years as vice chair, notable a lot of good work on sprays to ensure retaining their use etc which he has achieved with great success at EU level! let alone the fact he makes a very large effort to speak to members either via here/ meetings/ at shows etc, he has put up his contact details on TFF more than once and given the flack he has had on here sometimes in all honesty no one could blame him if he didn't do that.

Minette, now what has she achieved in the last two years as deputy??.......................... need some help here folks because I cant actually think of one thing she has achieved on members behalf! she is good at keeping a very low profile over difficult issues ( like sprays for example ) sits on the RT board and ignores the vast majority of members who are far from happy with the scheme and pushes everything thru that the RT board want to do at farm level, she hasn't made herself contactable to grassroots members like the rest of the current top team have done, she isn't a team player and is very hard to work with, let alone the way in the morning she will write an article on a issue with one viewpoint yet by the afternoon she is writing an article with a totally different viewpoint than what she had in the morning on the same issue! none of this is leadership material......

If minette gets in expect WLA assurance to come in and ramping up of RT rules at farm level, once WLA his bought in expect memberships fees for farmers to be triple or more than what they currently are.

Can't like that enough. (y)

We have to apply the law, we are bound by it and it is implicit when we sell stock that it has been raised and treated properly. The sooner RT has gone the better. (unless it's replaced by WLA)

This is the problem. As good as both candidates are they are both still farmers first and foremost. To have an impact like Blair did do the NFU need to recruit a Chief Executive to lead negotiations with the required media knowhow.

Whole life assurance.

Making sure that an animal has been on a UK assured farm for its entire life.....right up to the point the processors mix it with foreign or out of date meat from who knows which animal whilst labelling it as 100% Quality Assured British Beef!

In a nutshell. :)
And after its spent its whole life being assured it gets its throat slit without being stunned and farm assurance and the nfu does sweet fa. To many farms around that have been given farm assurance which a blind man can see do not deserve it, which leads me to believe its a money making scheme for sai global rather than a premium scheme for good farming. NFU bribes us with a list of things we can get discount on but hardly ever buy. I for one will be leaving both . I wouldnt trust Gove as far as i could throw him, reminds me of mandelson.

I am not so sure about this talk of Blair. He is completely untrustworthy. People like to think they can trust the food they eat. Do farmers really want to be represented by a short term confidence trickster?

A David Handley type who can kick some ar#e . Uk farmers need to learn a thing or two from the french farmers, block a few roads and burn some tyres around whitehall.

Messiah in his own mind, fool. Sod the media, soundbites won't put the job right, actions speak louder than a cheap quip.
