Probably easier said than done though, I'd imagine there's huge areas that could potentially flood.
People have to live somewhere and planning's not exactly easy to get.

Let's be clear, there is no ban, no new laws, just the same old meaningless waffle that won't change anything. They're saying building on flood plains should only happen if "There is no real alternative", so a couple of lines in the planning proposal will justify the need and it's job done, business as usual.
Unless it's written in law listening to what these pillocks say is a waste of time

The EA have finally realised what most sensible people realised several centuries ago.
Another couple of hundred years and they might suggest dredging the rivers?......

when the so called experts talk about population growth and the need for to just keep pace with it of one million new homes, right now ? they come out with statistics like only say 6 percent of the country is developed ? that might or might not be true but thats an average, that counts great swaths of the country where theres no jobs infrusteructure or prosperity just thousands of acres of pretty but barren lands and mountains ?

the debate about the countries rapid population growth will have to come very soon ? anyone with any common sense can see in the medium term the pace of development in our small crowded country is just not sustanable ? ive said it many times on here where i live the local plan calls for an additional 28000 new homes by 2034? its gridlock now? with out any flooding or drought ?

The local plan, dear God. Our local council is trying to get one of these garden villages secured. Why? No one has a Scooby, it'll be horrendous. And all so the councillors can make themselves feel big. Who's demanding this cr@p? As anyone knows who's sat through a council planning meeting it's no wonder things just get steadily worse. How do these people get to a position of determining everyone else's lives?

As posted somewhere else recently one of the fields I rent was recently under a foot of water but there is a planning application in for houses there.......with a recommendation for approval !!!!

Summed up to a T on the news this morning. Reporter in Shrewsbury looking at the floods and talking about the potential for the flood defences to be breached this evening. Said though that the ancient market town is built up on a hill and won’t flood, “they must have known something back then”.. Brilliant
