Well in that case, ford had nothing comparable to a 1690....

7610 was biggest 4 pot, what was that then, about 90hp? they didnt hit 100hp until the series 3 with a rotary pump?

1490 was 85hp, so sat in between the 66/7610. 1690 was 104hp, so sat between 7610 and 8210 surely?
In 1981 Ford introduced the power plus engine into the 7600 which was 103hp. The last gen 3 were 105hp

That price was for what you said plus the few other things I thought you'd like. No mention of assister ram, sliding lower rear window or air conditioning in the price list.

Must have been something you had to mention to the salesman then, most 1490s and all 16s usually had the assister ram. 1490 here has one piece back window, 1390 of same age had sliding window, so there were options it seems

like i said, air con was a late addition, on the 94s it became mor common

This is a very early 90 series price list, dated 26th November 1979. Says that the list of accessories for 11, 12 and 1390 models will be issued as these tractors become available

This will make interesting reading....nebraska test results..7600 vs 1690

Quoted power..

7600, 103hp
1690, 104hp

PTO power at max engine revs
7600, 84hp
1690, 90hp

Fuel use at above test
7600, 5.4 G/hr
1690, 5.8 G/hr

PTO power at rated pto speed
7600, 85hp
1690,87hp

Fuel use at rated pto speed
7600, 5.3G/hr
1690, 5.5G/hr

Drawbar power
7600, 65hp
1690, 72hp

Drawbar power fuel use
7600, 5.3G/hr
1690, 5.5G/hr

Max drawbar pull
7600, 7779lbs
1690, 10,536lb

Perfectly illustrating why a 6 pot is usually better than a 4 pot turbo. Ok its used a bit more fuel, but the gains are there to be had

Can't really compare a 4cyl to a 6cyl :ROFLMAO: On early 10 series it was 2 but in 85 when super Q came out you could get 4 soools, right down to the 5610. Only the last gen 3 had shiftable PTO

Its a common argument on here nowdays, with 200hp turboed to hell and back 4 cylinder engines

id rather have the 6 cyl without a doubt

shiftable pto is very usefull. Did the ford spools have a float feature or where they basic double acting with no float?

the pto power figures are interesting, one can assume that the ford had the engine running at higher revs than the DB to obtain pto speed, as would be the case with a turboed engine, what was pto speed on a 76, 2200rpm?

Ah yes, the spool valve ' issue'.
My 7810's got 4.:ROFLMAO:
Only ever used one though....:sorry:

Got twin spools on 14/15, need 2 for drill/front linkage, 2 for fert spreader, 2 for sprayer, 2 for high tip trailer, 2 for any trailer with hydraulic tailgate

1490 has 3, 2 double and a single. Means you can run loader, tip trailer and open tailgate without having to do anything more than close a tap

Think the 7700 etc from 1976 had float in the spools. Q cab 7600 etc didnt

It's difficult to make direct comparisons between makes when they were updating ranges or launching new models at different times. This launch video for Maxxum is a good example of this, they're comparing it to Ford's 10 series Force 2 and it's like comparing night and day. The comparison would've been closer when Ford launched the 40s a few years later.

I thought all 7610 s were over 100 horse, up to 104 in the end, 7810 was only 98 but pulled better

Either 3rd or 4th low and reverse when mucking out or grain loading and 2nd high to 4th reverse when round the yard or loading bales in a field. Gears on the left, extended spool levers on the right. Never seemed bad at the time. The 885 actually replaced a newer slightly more powerful one which had a better gear layout for yard work but didn't have an extendable loader on it.
There is s international here on scraper, 3rd high and 3rd reverse and it's very slow going back a and a bit too high gear going forward, well for pulling away
