I,m looking to improve the lights in the milking parlour, because its a bit dark at udder level. What are your thoughts on placing 12v rope lights below the rump rail?

Our electrition was trying to encourage me to do this, seams crazy. To be honest I don’t understand the need to have lights in the parlour, I feel with my hand the udder/teats and any issues without the need of super light. I actually milk with only one rather than two rows of lights on to save costs.

Have you looked at corn light bulbs? We upgraded a couple of years ago. We have got them quite high up in our parlour and have a swing over so a lot of light does't get through, but they are still good enough. If we want more light we have a big halogen light at one end of the parlour.

Install 2 rows of led strip lights.
Running cost will be minimal compared to any other electrical appliance. You probably spend more time in the parlour than your bed. Make work pleasant and enjoyable.

We tried this and it was ok but row of LED strip lights over your head was much better in long run.
More light the better for spotting problems. LED on teat brush also a good job

We put some new LED lights in to replace the old ones ,which were led too and directional to an extent but blue light !!
Got some softer light colour LED ones now but hang them high but more towards the centre of the parlour so the light can direct towards the teat ends rather than the backs of the cows !!
White walls and white roof is great too, so to be able to see everything so clearly (the light doesnt get gobbled up the same) !!(our ceiling was white once ,but had become a shade of lightish brown! The assessor wanted it cobwebbed but after doing that we discovered a bit of white paint makes such a difference ,so doing it all out in white ,and cladding walls in white parlour lining ! Arent we tarts?!!
